Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed cervical spinal cord arteriovenous shunts (SCAVSs) in 240 patients to understand their natural progression, treatment, and clinical outcomes.
  • Acute onset was more common, and many patients (63.7%) experienced spontaneous recovery, especially those with acute symptoms.
  • Treatment options included microsurgery and embolization, with varying rates of success and complications; the lack of spontaneous recovery after onset was a significant risk factor for poorer long-term outcomes.

Objective: Isolated spinal aneurysms (ISAs) are rare causes of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), which encompass a highly heterogeneous group of clinical entities with multifarious pathogeneses, clinical characteristics, and treatment strategies. Therefore, knowledge about the ISAs remains inadequate. In this study, the authors present a comprehensive analysis of clinical data associated with ISAs at their institutions to enhance the understanding of this disease.

Background And Purpose: The translucent area on the surface of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) is associated with rupture risk. In the present study, the Polyflow module of the Ansys software was used to simulate and analyze the thickness of the aneurysm wall to detect whether it was "translucent" and to assess the rupture risk.

Methods: Forty-five patients with 48 IAs who underwent microsurgery were retrospectively reviewed.

The natural history of intradural spinal cord arteriovenous shunts is unknown. We performed an observational study in a consecutive patient cohort with symptomatic intradural spinal cord arteriovenous shunts who were admitted to three institutes to investigate the clinical course of this complex disease, which would provide valuable evidence to inform clinical decision-making. The clinical course of patients with symptomatic intradural spinal cord arteriovenous shunts from initial presentation to occurrence of clinical deterioration, initiation of treatment, or last follow-up was analysed.

Background: Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH) is a rare neurologic emergency of the spinal cord. Its cause and treatment strategy remain controversial. This study aimed to evaluate a significant cause of SSEH and to discuss the treatment strategy according to the clinical outcomes of patients in 2 institutions.

Object: The authors undertook this study to establish an animal model to investigate the pathophysiological changes of venous hypertensive myelopathy (VHM).

Methods: This study was a randomized control animal study with blinded evaluation. The VHM model was developed in 24 adult New Zealand white rabbits by means of renal artery and vein anastomosis and trapping of the posterior vena cava; 12 rabbits were subjected to sham surgery.
