Objective: We investigated renal injury characteristics in Chinese patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) who had undergone renal biopsy.
Methods: We searched the medical records of patients with SSc who were hospitalized at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 1990 and August 2019. We analyzed the clinical characteristics and pathological results of these patients.
Objective: Because acquired hemophilia (AH) is a rare entity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), we aimed to investigate the clinical features of SLE-related AH in Chinese patients.
Methods: This is a medical records review study carried out at a large tertiary care hospital in China from years 1986 to 2018. We searched the case database in Peking Union Medical College Hospital using the International Classification of Diseases.
To research the possible role of Tai Chi in preventing cardiovascular disease and improving cardiopulmonary function in adults with obesity aged 50 years and older.Between 2007 and 2012, 120 adults with obesity, aged 50 years and older, were divided into a Tai Chi group and a control group, with 60 participants in each group. The 2 groups were evaluated for weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure (BP), body mass index, and incidence of chronic disease during follow-up monitoring.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTumor necrosis factor (TNF)-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) is a member of the TNF superfamily of structurally related cytokines and is known to induce proliferation, migration, differentiation, apoptotic cell death, inflammation, and angiogenesis. These physiological processes are induced by the binding of TWEAK to fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14 (Fn14), a highly inducible cell-surface receptor that is linked to several intracellular signaling pathways, including the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway. This review discusses the role of the TWEAK-Fn14 axis in several rheumatic diseases and the potential therapeutic benefits of modulation of the TWEAK-Fn14 pathway.

Objective: To reveal the genetic characteristic of Coxsackie virus A16 (CVA16) strains isolated during an epidemic of Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease (HFMD) in Shanghai in 2002.
Methods: CVA16 strains were isolated from the patients of HFMD during the epidemic in Shanghai in 2002. The VP1 coding gene of CVA16 strains was amplified by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and sequenced.
Objective: It was noticed that coxsackievirus A16 (CA16) and enterovirus 71 (EV71) were two major etiological agents of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in children. Recently there were several large outbreaks of HFMD in the Asia-Pacific region, and there was a propensity to cause severe complications or death in children under 5 years of age. The severe forms were associated with EV71 infection.
