Background: Displaced patellar fractures are commonly treated with open reduction and fixation with several different types of tension-band (TB) constructs. The main objective of this study was to compare the prevalence of postoperative complications after surgical stabilization of comminuted patellar fractures with either a modified Kirschner-wire tension band (MKTB), a cannulated-screw tension band (CSTB), or a ring-pin tension band (RPTB).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective and consecutive cohort study of comminuted patellar fractures (n = 334) stabilized using a TB construct.

Saline-alkaline stress is characterized by high salinity and high alkalinity (high pH); alkaline stress has been shown to be the primary factor inhibiting rice seedling growth. In this study, we investigated the potential priming effect of abscisic acid (ABA) on tolerance of rice seedlings to alkaline stress simulated by Na2CO3. Seedlings were pretreated with ABA at concentrations of 0 (control), 10, and 50 μM by root-drench for 24 h and then transferred to a Na2CO3 solution that did not contain ABA.

A novel ginsenoside-hydrolyzing beta-glucosidase was purified from Paecilomyces Bainier sp. 229 by a combination of QSepharose FF, phenyl-Sepharose CL-4B, and CHT ceramic hydroxyapatite column chromatographies. The purified enzyme was a monomeric protein with a molecular mass estimated to be 115 kDa.

The title compound, C(41)H(70)O(12)·CH(4)O, was prepared by microbial transformation. Within the steroid skeleton of the mol-ecule, three six-membered rings exhibit a chair conformation, while the five -membered ring adopts an envelope conformation. The two pyranosyl rings also adopt chair conformations.
