Background: Clinical co-occurrence of UC (Ulcerative Colitis) and T2DM (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus) is observed. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential causal relationship between Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) using LDSC and LAVA analysis, followed by genetic verification through TSMR, providing insights for clinical prevention and treatment.
Methods: Genetic loci closely related to T2DM were extracted as instrumental variables from the GWAS database, with UC as the outcome variable, involving European populations.
CN is widely applied in the synthesis of single-atom catalysts. However, understanding on the active site and the reaction mechanism is not fully in consensus. Especially, bare studies have considered the coordination environment of the single-atomic dopant and the effect of nitrogen vacancy on CN.

The Retzius space is a small anatomical space between the pubic symphysis and the bladder located extraperitoneally and filled with loose fatty connective tissue. Giant lipomas are rare in the Retzius space.

Waterlogging, an abiotic stress, severely restricts crop yield in various parts of the world. Thus, we conducted a meta-analysis of 2,419 comparisons from 115 studies to comprehensively evaluate the overall change in crop yield induced by waterlogging in the global region. The results suggested that waterlogging obviously decreased crop yield by 32.

The tCRISPRi system alleviates most of the known problems of plasmid-based expression methods, and can be immediately used to construct libraries of sgRNAs that can complement the Keio collection by targeting both essential and nonessential genes. Most importantly from a practical perspective, construction of tCRISPRi to target a new gene requires only one-step oligo recombineering.

A widely used approach employs deletion of a nonessential gene of interest (knockout), or multi-step recombineering to move a gene of interest under a repressible promoter (knockdown). However, these genetic methods are laborious, and limited for quantitative study.

Simulating of the direct absorption TDLAS spectrum can help to comprehend the process of the absorbing and understand the influence on the absorption signal with each physical parameter. Firstly, the basic theory and algorithm of direct absorption TDLAS is studied and analyzed thoroughly, through giving the expressions and calculating steps of parameters based on Lambert-Beer's law, such as line intensity, absorption cross sections, concentration, line shape and gas total partition functions. The process of direct absorption TDLAS is simulated using MATLAB programs based on HITRAN spectra database, with which the absorptions under a certain temperature, pressure, concentration and other conditions were calculated, Water vapor is selected as the target gas, the absorptions of which under every line shapes were simulated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA surface plasmon (SP)-enhanced nanoporous GaN-based green LED based on top-down processing technology has been successfully fabricated. This SP-enhanced LED consists of nanopores passing through the multiple quantum wells (MQWs) region, with Ag nanorod array filled in the nanopores for SP-MQWs coupling and thin Al(2)O(3) passivation layer for electrical protection. Compared with nanoporous LED without Ag nanorods, the electroluminescence (EL) peak intensity for the SP-enhanced LED was greatly enhanced by 380% and 220% at an injection current density of 1 and 20A/cm(2), respectively.

The tetA and sacB genes are contained in a DNA cassette and confer a novel dual counter-selection system. Expression of tetA confers bacterial resistance to tetracycline (Tc(R)) and also causes sensitivity to the lipophillic chelator fusaric acid; sacB causes sensitivity to sucrose.

The cellular functions important for this type of homologous recombination have yet to be determined. Towards this end, we have identified Escherichia coli functions that process the recombining oligo and affect bacteriophage λ Red-mediated oligo recombination.

The generation of nucleotide alteration by oligo recombination provides novel assays for studying cellular processes. Single-strand exonucleases inhibit oligo recombination, and recombination is increased by mutating all four known exonucleases.

To grasp the international developing tendency of acupuncture research and provide some references for promoting acupuncture and moxibustion internationalization process, the articles about acupuncture in Science Citation Index (SCI) periodicals in 2007 were retrieved by adopting the retrieval tactics on line in combination with database searching. Results indicate that 257 articles about acupuncture had been retrived from the SCI Web databases. These articles were published in 125 journals respectively, most of which were Euramerican journals.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFRecombinogenic engineering methodology, also known as recombineering, utilizes homologous recombination to create targeted changes in cellular DNA with great specificity and flexibility. In Escherichia coli, the Red recombination system from bacteriophage lambda has been used successfully to modify both plasmid and chromosomal DNA in a highly efficient manner, using either a linear double-stranded DNA fragment or a synthetic single-stranded oligonucleotide (SSO). The current model for Red/SSO-mediated recombination involves the SSO first annealing to a transient, single-stranded region of DNA before being incorporated into the chromosome or plasmid target.
