Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a novel class of endogenous noncoding RNA with a covalently closed continuous loop that lacks the 5'-cap structure and the 3'-poly A tail, are more stable than linear RNAs and less susceptible to degradation by nucleases. CircRNAs are widespread in multiple mammalian genomes and have been detected in various tissues, cells and body fluids.

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare idiopathic histiocytoproliferative disease that usually affects the lymph nodes of the head and neck, but can also involve extranodal sites such as the skin, sinuses, and soft tissues. Breast RDD is exceedingly rare. It may be clinically and radiographically similar to neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases.

Objective: Evaluating portal hypertension is crucial for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who are candidates for liver resection. Total bile acid (TBA) is an easily accessible marker, but its potential as a non-invasive indicator of portal hypertension in patients with HCC is yet to be fully established.

Methods: This study included patients with HCC classified as Child-Pugh stage A who underwent liver resection at a referral hospital.

  • HLA-B*40:298:02 and HLA-B*40:01:01 are two variations of the HLA-B gene.
  • The difference between them includes eight nucleotide changes that occur from exon 1 to intron 6.
  • These differences in the gene can have implications for immune responses and disease susceptibility.

Article Synopsis
  • The genomic sequence has been fully analyzed.
  • HLA-B*40:186:02 is a variant that differs from HLA-B*40:186:01.
  • The difference is caused by a cytosine substitution in the second exon of the gene.

Article Synopsis
  • - The full genomic analysis reveals the specific differences between two variants of the HLA-B gene: HLA-B*46:01:25 and HLA-B*46:01:01:01.
  • - The key distinction lies in a single thymine substitution found in exon 4 of the HLA-B*46:01:25 variant.
  • - This insight expands our understanding of HLA-B gene diversity and its potential implications in immunology and genetics.

Background: The response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) treatment and its underlying mechanisms remain elusive. This study investigates the role of enzymes involved in fatty acid activation, specifically Acyl-CoA synthetase long chain 4 (ACSL4), in HCC patients treated with postoperative adjuvant TACE (PA-TACE) and in nutrient-deprived HCC cells.

Methods: We examined the expression of ACSL4 and its family members in HCC clinical samples and cell lines.

Article Synopsis
  • * A case study revealed BTB mistaken for breast cancer, where imaging suggested cancer but a biopsy confirmed chronic inflammation and TB; T-SPOT testing and MRI also indicated TB infection.
  • * The patient underwent a 4-month anti-TB treatment followed by surgery, resulting in no recurrence after nine months, underscoring the importance of accurate diagnosis to avoid misidentifying BTB as other conditions.

Background: Epidemiological studies have reported that polymorphisms of folate-metabolizing genes have a significant impact on male infertility. However, the results of published studies have come to different conclusions.

Objective: To determine an association between folate-metabolizing gene polymorphisms and the risk of male infertility.

We explore the construction of gluing together an arbitrary number of spacetimes along a common interface. This provides a general tool to construct new gravitational backgrounds with multiple boundaries. We derive junction conditions across the interface, in both Einstein gravity and dilaton gravity, using two methods (1) by developing a geometrical technique of introducing an auxiliary reverse extension manifold and (2) by the variational principle.

The hybrid nature of Pd(I)-alkyl radical species has enabled a wide array of radical-based transformations. However, in this transformation, the secondary Pd(I)-alkyl radical species are prone to recombining into Pd(II)-alkyl species to give Heck-type products via β-H loss. Herein, we report a visible-light-induced, three-component Pd-catalyzed 1,2-aminoalkylation of alkenes with readily available alkyl halides and amines to construct C-C and C-N bonds simultaneously.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of insulin resistance (IR) on in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Study Design: PubMed, Google Scholar,Web of Science, Embase, Scopus and the Cochrane Library were searched to identify relevant studies. A total of 6,137 PCOS women undergoing IVF/ICSI with or without IR were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • Glycated hemoglobin (HbA) variability is linked to increased risks of all-cause death and heart failure (HF) rehospitalization in patients with HF, regardless of whether they have diabetes or not.
  • In a study involving 65,950 HF patients over an average of 6.7 years, higher HbA variability correlated with worse outcomes, especially for those without diabetes.
  • Specifically, patients with HF without diabetes faced a significantly greater risk of rehospitalization and death compared to those with diabetes, highlighting the importance of managing HbA levels in all HF patients.

Background: Heart failure (HF) and dementia frequently co-exist with shared pathological mechanisms and risk factors. Our study aims to investigate the association between statin therapy and the risks of dementia and its subtypes among patients with HF.

Methods: The Hong Kong Clinical Data Analysis and Reporting System database was interrogated to identify patients with incident HF diagnosis from 2004 to 2018, using ICD 9/ICD 10 codes.

Visible-light-driven chemical transformation has emerged as a powerful tool for the synthesis of γ-lactams. However, during this transformation, the α-bromoimides need to be pre-prepared. Herein, we report a photoreodox/copper-catalyzed one-pot three-component reaction of alkenes with primary amines for the construction of γ-lactams.

Among the thirteen leukocyte Ig-like receptor (LILR) loci located at 19q13.4, LILRA3 is unique in that it encodes a soluble protein lacking the transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains, and a 6.7 kb deletion spanning the first seven exons has been detected in some human individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • Heart failure (HF) is linked to an increased risk of developing dementia, as both conditions share common risk factors.
  • In a study of over 202,000 HF patients from 1995 to 2018, about 11% experienced new-onset dementia, with Alzheimer's being the most common type.
  • Factors such as older age, being female, and having other health issues like Parkinson's or stroke were identified as key predictors of dementia, which further increased the risk of death in these patients.
