Article Synopsis
  • STROBY, a broad-spectrum fungicide, is used in Guizhou to control tobacco brown spot and impacts both harmful and beneficial microorganisms in the process.
  • Research investigated the changes in fungal and bacterial communities on tobacco leaves at various time points before and after applying STROBY.
  • Results indicate that STROBY significantly alters microbial communities, with fungal diversity decreasing in asymptomatic leaves and showing that asymptomatic leaves are more affected than symptomatic ones.

In the tobacco phyllosphere, some of the microbes may have detrimental effects on plant health, while many may be neutral or even beneficial. Some cannot be cultivated, so culture-independent methods are needed to explore microbial diversity. In this study, both metagenetic analysis and traditional culture-dependent methods were used on asymptomatic healthy leaves and symptomatic diseased leaves of tobacco plants.
