Quantum computing models have propelled advances in many application domains. However, in the field of natural language processing (NLP), quantum computing models are limited in representation capacity due to the high linearity of the underlying quantum computing architecture. This work attempts to address this limitation by leveraging the concept of self-supervised pre-training, a paradigm that has been propelling the rocketing development of NLP, to increase the power of quantum NLP models on the representation level.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on improving the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by creating charge-selective interfaces that minimize defects and align energy levels to reduce nonradiative recombination.
  • - A new method using a combination of sodium phenylmethanesulfonate (SPM) and 2-phenylethylammonium iodide (PEAI) helps to passivate defects and enhance electron extraction, leading to improved efficiency in PSCs.
  • - The results show a significant efficiency increase from 21.74% to 25.12% and a reduction in nonradiative recombination losses, demonstrating that this approach can lead to highly efficient and stable PSCs.

As an important biomarker of neural aging, the brain age reflects the integrity and health of the human brain. Accurate prediction of brain age could help to understand the underlying mechanism of neural aging. In this study, a cross-stratified ensemble learning algorithm with staking strategy was proposed to obtain brain age and the derived predicted age difference (PAD) using T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data.

Reducing interface nonradiative recombination is important for realizing highly efficient perovskite solar cells. In this work, we develop a synergistic bimolecular interlayer (SBI) strategy via 4-methoxyphenylphosphonic acid (MPA) and 2-phenylethylammonium iodide (PEAI) to functionalize the perovskite interface. MPA induces an in-situ chemical reaction at the perovskite surface via forming strong P-O-Pb covalent bonds that diminish the surface defect density and upshift the surface Fermi level.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the potential benefits of bailout angioplasty or stenting (BAOS) for patients with large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke (LVO-AIS) who experienced unsuccessful recanalization after thrombectomy, as poor outcomes are common in such cases.
  • - This randomized controlled trial involved 348 participants from 36 hospitals across China, who were either assigned to the BAOS intervention group or a control group receiving standard therapy, with outcomes measured by changes in the modified Rankin Scale at 90 days.
  • - Findings indicated a diverse participant demographic, primarily male, with a median age of 63, and both safety and efficacy of the BAOS procedure were evaluated without loss to follow-up for the primary outcomes.

Fabrication of large-sized inorganic nanosheets is an efficient strategy to promote carrier transportation in flexible thermoelectric (TE) films. Herein, we report the self-assembly of large-sized CuSbSe nanosheets by using a Se nanowire template via wet chemical synthesis and then vacuum-assisted filter these plate-like microcrystals on nylon to prepare CuSbSe flexible thermoelectric (TE) hybrid films. SEM reveals that the as-synthesized CuSbSe powders by using Se nanowires as selenium sources presented 2D plate-like micron structures uniformly and tightly self-assembled by acute triangle-like nanoparticles.

The origin of fast radio bursts (FRBs), the brightest cosmic explosion in radio bands, remains unknown. We introduce here a novel method for a comprehensive analysis of active FRBs' behaviors in the time-energy domain. Using "Pincus Index" and "Maximum Lyapunov Exponent", we were able to quantify the randomness and chaoticity, respectively, of the bursting events and put FRBs in the context of common transient physical phenomena, such as pulsar, earthquakes, and solar flares.

The traditional measurement method can't achieve real-time monitoring of soil moisture content (SMC) within a two-dimensional area. To solve the above problems, we propose a rapid SMC monitoring method for two-dimensional area based on distributed acoustic sensing (DAS). DAS demodulates the backward Rayleigh scattering signal containing seismic wave sound velocity information from the active seismic source.

Purpose: Phthalate esters have been a research hotspot recently owing to potential obesogenic activity, but conflicting results have been reported. This case-control study was designed to investigate whether there was an association between phthalate metabolites and childhood obesity in China.

Methods: A total of 240 pairs of obese/overweight children and age- (±3 months) and gender-matched controls were recruited.

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are brief, intense flashes of radio waves from unidentified extragalactic sources. Polarized FRBs originate in highly magnetized environments. We report observations of the repeating FRB 20190520B spanning 17 months, which show that the FRB's Faraday rotation is highly variable and twice changes sign.

Estradiol decline can result in depressive disorders in females; nevertheless, the causes of this decline are unclear. In this study, we isolated estradiol-degrading Klebsiella aerogenes from the feces of premenopausal females with depression. In mice, gavaging with this strain led to estradiol decline and depression-like behaviors.

Background: The role of endovascular therapy for acute stroke with a large infarction has not been extensively studied in differing populations.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter, prospective, open-label, randomized trial in China involving patients with acute large-vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score of 3 to 5 (range, 0 to 10, with lower values indicating larger infarction) or an infarct-core volume of 70 to 100 ml. Patients were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio within 24 hours from the time they were last known to be well to undergo endovascular therapy and receive medical management or to receive medical management alone.

Background: The unclarified treatment strategy for acute and subacute ndSMA-TE limits the therapeutic efficacy and worsens the prognosis. This study aimed to determine the predictive factors impacting the treatment strategy for acute and subacute ndSMA-TE.

Method: A database of 116 patients with nonchronic ndSMA-TE admitted between January 2001 and December 2021 was retrospectively analyzed.

Awareness of radiation-related knowledge (RRK) and nuclear energy-related knowledge (NERK) among residents around a nuclear power plant (NPP), as well as their concerns about a NPP, were investigated. A face-to-face survey was conducted among 1,775 residents within 30 km around the NPP in Liaoning Province, China. A single-item Likert scale, Spearman's/Pearson's correlation coefficients, Student's t-test, ANOVA, and multiple-linear regression analysis were employed.

Background: The recent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak has caused millions of deaths and greatly influenced the timely diagnosis and treatment of other diseases. Throughout the pandemic, there was a dramatic reduction in the prevalence of several sexually transmitted infections. However, the impact of the ongoing pandemic on human papillomavirus (HPV) infection rates has not been investigated thus far.

The polarization of fast radio bursts (FRBs), which are bright astronomical transient phenomena, contains information about their environments. Using wide-band observations with two telescopes, we report polarization measurements of five repeating FRBs and find a trend of lower polarization at lower frequencies. This behavior is modeled as multipath scattering, characterized by a single parameter, σ, the rotation measure (RM) scatter.

Glycolate is a bulk chemical with wide applications in the textile, food processing, and pharmaceutical industries. Glycolate can be produced from glucose via the glycolysis and glyoxylate shunt pathways, followed by reduction to glycolate. However, two problems limit the productivity and yield of glycolate when using glucose as the sole carbon source.
