The Influence of Work-Related Fatigue, Work Conditions, and Personal Characteristics on Intent to Leave Among New Nurses.

Purpose: This study aimed to (a) test the fit of the hypothesized model for new nurses' intent to leave and (b) determine the extent to which personal characteristics, work conditions, and work-related fatigue predict intent to leave among new nurses.

Design And Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey study. A total of 162 new nurses were recruited.

Assessment of ultraviolet B-blocking effects of weekly disposable contact lenses on corneal surface in a mouse model.

Purpose: Weekly disposable soft contact lenses have been widely used recently, but their shield effects against ultraviolet (UV) irradiation remain to be evaluated. This study investigated the bioprotective effects of several weekly soft contact lenses against UVB irradiation on the corneal surface in a mouse model.

Methods: Fifty ICR mice were randomly divided into five groups: (1) blank control, (2) exposed to UVB without contact lens protection, (3) exposed to UVB and protected with Vifilcon A contact lenses, (4) exposed to UVB and protected with Etafilcon A contact lenses, and (5) exposed to UVB and protected with HEMA+MA contact lenses.

[Compassion fatigue and coping strategies for hospital nurses].

Over-involvement in patient trauma and loss in clinical settings negatively affects nurses and may cause compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue is associated with prolonged exposure to trauma cases, over-involvement in patient situations and over-extending caring energies. Nurses unable to adapt and cope may suffer physically and psychologically, reduce their quality of care, cause medical care costs to increase, and ultimately become frustrated and decide to leave the nursing profession.

[Elevating the accuracy rate for nurses' changes of patients' positions].

The incidence of pressure sores among inpatients had increased in our ward month by month. Clinical checklists and data analysis showed that the accuracy rate for nurses' changes of patients' positions was 12%. The investigation of reasons for this low accuracy rate included: (1) A flawed nursing standard for position changes.
