Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) represents one of the most common subtypes of lung cancer with high rates of incidence and mortality, which contributes to substantial health and economic demand across the globe. Treatment today mainly consists of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, but their efficacy in advanced stages is often suboptimal and emphasizes the clear need for new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Using comprehensive bioinformatics analyses consisting of the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Human Protein Atlas (HPA) and Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), immune infiltration analysis and functional enrichment analysis, and single-cell analysis, we examined the potential of keratin 18 (KRT18) as a candidate biomarker in advanced LUAD.

This study aimed to investigate the performance differences of low-sodium myofibrillar protein (MP) gels substituted by different chloride salt mixtures from the perspective of gelation process. The results revealed that low-sodium MP substituted by KCl/CaCl exhibited higher turbidity and particle size at 40 % substitution, and formed protein aggregates earlier at 53 °C. During the gelation process, KCl/CaCl increased the extent of cross-linking as the substitution level increased from 10 % to 40 %, which was prone to forming final gels with poor palatability.

The problems of complex background, low quality of finger vein images, and poor discriminative features have been the bottleneck of feature extraction and finger vein recognition. To this end, we propose a feature extraction algorithm based on the open-set testing protocol. In order to eliminate the interference of irrelevant areas, this paper proposes the idea of segmentation-assisted classification, that is, using the rough mask of the finger vein to constrain the feature learning process so that the network can focus on the vein area and learn greater weight for the vein.

The protein structure, gel changes, and chewing properties of low-sodium myofibrillar protein (MP) prepared by compound chloride salts (KCl/MgCl, KCl/CaCl, and KCl/MgCl/CaCl) and different substitution degrees (10%, 25%, and 40%) at same ionic strength (0.6 M) were investigated. The results revealed that the low-sodium MP gels containing CaCl manifested more liquid loss and less moisture content accompanied by obvious morphological shrinkage, while KCl/MgCl contributed to the gel juiciness.

Article Synopsis
  • * This dissertation explores a specific endophytic fungus, Fusarium lateritium (Fl617), and compares it to pathogenic strains Fusarium oxysporum Fo4287 and Fo47 through genomic analysis to better understand endophytic lifestyles.
  • * Findings indicate that Fl617 has a smaller genome and fewer pathogenic characteristics, suggesting that its ability to thrive within plants may rely on refined mechanisms of colonization rather than pathogenicity, allowing for a stable symbiotic relationship over time.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most predominant type of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia and has an increasing incidence, poor prognosis, and unclear pathogenesis. In order to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying IPF further, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing analysis on three healthy controls and five IPF lung tissue samples. The results revealed a significant shift in epithelial cells (ECs) phenotypes in IPF, which may be attributed to the differentiation of alveolar type 2 cells to basal cells.

Coxsackievirus B1 (CVB1), an enterovirus with multiple clinical presentations, has been associated with potential long-term consequences, including hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), in some patients. However, the related animal models, transmission dynamics, and long-term tissue tropism of CVB1 have not been systematically characterized. In this study, we established a model of CVB1 respiratory infection in rhesus macaques and evaluated the clinical symptoms, viral load, and immune levels during the acute phase (0-14 days) and long-term recovery phase (15-30 days).

  • Microorganisms adapt to environmental stress, but their response to long-term heavy metal contamination in natural conditions is not well understood; this study focused on the Mang River, heavily polluted for over 40 years.
  • The sediment samples showed high concentrations of metals like Cr, Zn, and Pb, with two-thirds at or above moderate ecological risk levels, indicating significant impact on the microbial community and its resistance genes.
  • The research revealed that a heavy metal-resistant microbiome likely developed through the spread of insertion sequences (ISs) carrying multiple metal resistance genes (MRGs), suggesting ISs play a key role in microbial adaptation to heavy metal stress.

Color constancy is a basic step for achieving stable color perception in both biological visual systems and the image signal processing (ISP) pipeline of cameras. So far, there have been numerous computational models of color constancy that focus on scenes under normal light conditions but are less concerned with nighttime scenes. Compared with daytime scenes, nighttime scenes usually suffer from relatively higher-level noise and insufficient lighting, which usually degrade the performance of color constancy methods designed for scenes under normal light.
