When the diameter of semiconductor nanowires is below the Bohr radius, confined excitons in the radial direction can freely move along the elongated axis direction, highlighting their potential for applications in quantum information and optoelectronic devices. Controlled anisotropic growth and oriented attachment are viable strategies for producing ultra-long semiconductor nanowires with precisely controlled lengths and diameters. Anisotropic ZnSe nanorods are used as the initial seeds for the controlled anisotropic growth and oriented attachment methods.

Objective: Status epilepticus (SE) significantly increases the risk for the development of unprovoked seizures, memory loss, and temporal lobe epilepsy. Our prior studies showed that SE increases complement C3 signaling in the hippocampus, which parallels memory deficits. Additionally, C3 knockout (KO) mice were protected against SE-induced memory impairments, suggesting a mechanistic role for C3 in this pathophysiology.

Article Synopsis
  • Grain size is important for rice quality, and while grain length and width are well-studied, the regulation of grain thickness is less understood.
  • Researchers identified a key factor, qGT3, which encodes the OsMADS1 protein, crucial for regulating grain thickness by influencing sugar transport during grain development.
  • A variant of OsMADS1 leads to a shorter protein that enhances sugar uptake in the grain, improving both thickness and quality, and involves other proteins (NF-YB1 and NF-YC12) that work together with OsMADS1 to boost its effectiveness.

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death that occurs due to the peroxidation of phospholipids in the cell membrane. In this study, we find that the protein level of NSUN2 is significantly decreased in hepatocyte ferroptosis. This is attributed to STUB1-mediated ubiquitination of NSUN2 at lysines 457 and 654, promoting NSUN2 degradation in ferroptosis.

Silicone surfactants are increasingly used in the industrial field due to their advantages such as low surface energy, stable performance, and good biocompatibility. However, many polyether-modified silicone surfactants' foam stability and easy hydrolysis in non-neutral aqueous systems limit their application in many fields. In this article, the decynediol-ethoxylate chain segment was grafted onto heptamethyltrisiloxane to synthesize a modified trisiloxane surfactant (G2).

To achieve uniform cooling and effective homogenization control in ultra-large beam-blank molds necessitates the optimization of submerged-entry-nozzle (SEN) structures. This study employed computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling to investigate the impact of two-port and three-port SEN configurations on fluid flow characteristics, free-surface velocities, temperature fields, and solidification behaviors. Subsequently, integrating numerical simulations with the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) and metallurgical quality-control expertise facilitated the multi-objective optimization of a three-port SEN structure suitable for beam-blank molds.

Microbial cell surface display technology, which relies on genetically fusing heterologous target proteins to the cell wall through fusion with cell wall anchor proteins, has emerged as a promising and powerful method with diverse applications in biotechnology and biomedicine. Compared to classical intracellular or extracellular expression (secretion) systems, the cell surface display strategy stands out by eliminating the necessity for enzyme purification, overcoming substrate transport limitations, and demonstrating enhanced activity, stability, and selectivity. Unlike phage or bacterial surface display, the yeast surface display (YSD) system offers distinct advantages, including its large cell size, ease of culture and genetic manipulation, the use of generally regarded as safe (GRAS) host cell, the ability to ensure correct folding of complex eukaryotic proteins, and the potential for post-translational modifications.

Sunitinib, a primary treatment for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), frequently encounters the challenge of resistance development. Metabolic reprogramming, a characteristic change in ccRCC, is likely linked to this resistance. Our research revealed a notable decrease in the expression of the key metabolic gene ABAT in ccRCC, which contributed to diminished sensitivity to sunitinib.

A certain type of photoresist used for deep-UV lithography (DUVL) can also be used for other types of photolithography. Thus, to meet the requirements of two or more lithography technologies simultaneously, it is necessary to design a variety of corresponding functional groups in the molecules of materials and obtain the required properties. Herein, we designed four matrix resins based on acrylate for DUVL, employing alkyl sulfide, adamantane, methyladamantane, and hydroxyl as dangling groups and a microcrosslinking network by adding a small amount of crosslinker.
