Real-world experience of angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors in patients with heart failure and dialysis.

Introduction: Although angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) has shown promise in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), the treatment effect in HFrEF patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing dialysis is uncertain. This study aimed to examine the real-world effects of ARNI vs. angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers (ACEI/ARB) in this subpopulation.

Utility of the ACD-GENE-CLI Score in Asian Patients with Critical Limb Ischemia Undergoing Endovascular Interventions.

Aims: Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is an emerging public health threat and lacks a reliable score for predicting the outcomes. The Age, Body Mass Index, Chronic Kidney Disease, Diabetes, and Genotyping (ABCD-GENE) risk score helps identify patients with coronary artery disease who have cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) polymorphism-related drug resistance and are at risk for cardiovascular adverse events. However, its application to CLI remains unknown.

LINC00365 inhibited lung adenocarcinoma progression and glycolysis via sponging miR-429/KCTD12 axis.

This study researched the function of long non-coding RNA LINC00365 in lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) progression. LINC00365, miR-429, and KCTD12 expression in the LAD clinical tissues and cells were detcetd by qRT-PCR and Western blot. LINC00365, miR-429, and KCTD12 effects on H1975 cells malignant phenotype were detected by cell counting kit-8 assay, clone formation experiment, Transwell experiment, and glycolysis.

A Comparison of Tumor-Associated and Non-Tumor-Associated Gastric Microbiota in Gastric Cancer Patients.

Background: How gastric cancer (GC) incidence is associated with changes in the gastric microbiome has not been firmly established. The present study therefore aims to investigate the microbial communities present within the gastric mucosa of patients with superficial gastritis (SG) or GC.

Methods: Paired tumor and paracancerous samples of the gastric mucosa were collected from 18 patients being surgically treated for GC and from 32 patients with SG being treated via gastroscopy.

Preoperative computed tomography diagnosis of non-recurrent laryngeal nerve in patients with esophageal carcinoma.

Background: The non-recurrent laryngeal nerve (NRLN) is a rare but potentially serious anomaly that is commonly associated with the aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA). It is easy to damage during surgical resection of esophageal cancer, leading to severe complications.

Methods: Preoperative enhanced thoracic computed tomography (CT) scans of 2697 patients with esophageal carcinoma treated in our hospital between January 2010 and December 2013 were examined.

Background: The South China landmass has been characterized by a complex geological history, including mountain lifting, climate changes, and river capture/reversal events. To determine how this complexity has influenced the landmass's phylogeography, our study examined the phylogeography of Garra orientalis, a cyprinid widely distributed in South China, using sequences from the mitochondrial DNA control region and cytochrome b gene (1887 bp) and polymorphisms of thirteen microsatellite loci.

Results: In total, 157 specimens were collected from eight populations.

A retrospective analysis was conducted of 178 patients who underwent short-term NAC with EOX regimen followed by surgery from January 2008 to December 2010. Neoadjuvant treatment response was evaluated using tumor regression grade.

Prognosis after resection for hepatitis B virus-associated intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.

Aim: To investigate the prognostic factors after resection for hepatitis B virus (HBV)-associated intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and to assess the impact of different extents of lymphadenectomy on patient survival.

Methods: A total of 85 patients with HBV-associated ICC who underwent curative resection from January 2005 to December 2006 were analyzed. The patients were classified into groups according to the extent of lymphadenectomy (no lymph node dissection, sampling lymph node dissection and regional lymph node dissection).

Insulin-like growth factor receptor-1 overexpression is associated with poor response of rectal cancers to radiotherapy.

Aim: To explore the potential correlation between insulin-like growth factor receptor-1 (IGF-1R) expression and rectal cancer radiosensitivity.

Methods: Eighty-seven rectal cancer patients (cTNM I-III) treated in our department between January 2011 and December 2012 were enrolled. All subjects were treated with preoperative radiotherapy and radical resection of rectal carcinoma.

[Application of regional arterial infusion chemotherapy in short-term neoadjuvant chemotherapy for advanced gastric cancer].

Objective: To explore the feasibility of short-term neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC), and to compare clinical efficacy of short-term neoadjuvant chemotherapy with different ways.

Methods: Clinical data of 310 AGC patients treated with one course of NACT using EOF regimen(epirubicin, oxaliplatin and fluorouracil plus calcium folinate) in our hospital from January 2008 to December 2011 were retrospectively analyzes. Efficacy was compared between regional arterial infusion chemotherapy and intravenously chemotherapy.

Impact of occult hepatitis B virus infection on outcome after resection for non-B non-C hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: To investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics of patients with both hepatitis B virus-surface antigen and hepatitis C virus antibody negative hepatocellular carcinoma (non-B non-C HCC [NBNC-HCC]) and examine the impact of occult hepatitis B virus infection (OBI) on patients' survival.

Methods: All patients with OBI were identified from a database of patients with NBNC-HCC who underwent surgical resection between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2008. Their clinicopathologic and survival characteristics were compared with NBNC-HCC patients without OBI.

Growth hormone protects colorectal cancer cells from radiation by improving the ability of DNA damage repair.

The present study aimed to examine the effects of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on the sensitivity of a colorectal cancer cell line to radiotherapy, and to investigate its association with DNA damage and repair. Flow cytometry and immunofluorescence were employed to detect growth hormone receptor (GHR) expression in nine human colorectal cancer cell lines. A colony forming assay was performed to measure the colorectal cancer cell proliferation post‑radiotherapy, as an indicator of radiotherapy sensitivity.

The oriental sucking barb, Garra orientalis, is a small to moderate-sized freshwater fish. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of G. oriental was successfully sequenced for the first time with total length of 17,288 bp.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the spotted scat Scatophagus argus (Perciformes: Scatophagidae).

The spotted scat, Scatophagus argus (Perciformes, Scatophagidae), is a recreational and commercial fish in China. In this paper, the complete mitochondrial genome of S. argus was firstly determined.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Sarcocheilichthys nigripinnis (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae).

We determined the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of Sarcocheilichthys nigripinnis by using long polymerase chain reaction method. The total length of S. nigripinnis mitogenome is 16,680 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, 2 ribosomal RNAs, and a noncoding control region.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Osteochilus salsburyi (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae).

Osteochilus salsburyi (Cypriniformes, Cyprinidae) is a small-sized fish of significant economic value. In this paper, the complete mitogenome sequence of O. salsburyi was first determined.

[An experimental study on chemoprevention of esophageal adenocarcinoma by celecoxib, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor].

Objective: To study the feasibility of chemoprevention of esophageal adenocarcinoma by celecoxib, a selective cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) inhibitor using a rat model.

Methods: Rats were divided into 3 groups: model group, celecoxib group, and control group. The rat surgical model was established by performing a gastrojejunostomy plus an esophagojejunostomy 5 mm distal to the gastrojejunal anastomosis.

Non-composite combined liver and intestinal allotransplantation.

Background: Patients with short bowel syndrome may require combined liver and intestinal transplantation due to total parenteral nutrition(TPN)-related liver damage. We report combined liver and intestinal allotransplantation as a non-composite technique in a patient in China.

Methods: During the operation, a 380 cm long intestine was transplanted with systemic drainage and aortic inflow, while the liver graft was placed in a piggyback fashion.

Functional hepatic flow in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Aim: To evaluate hepatic reserve function by investigating the change of functional hepatic flow and total hepatic flow in cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension.

Methods: HPLC method was employed for the determination of concentration of D-sorbitol in human plasma and urine. The functional hepatic flow (FHF) and total hepatic flow (THF) were determined by means of modified hepatic clearance of D-sorbitol combined with duplex doppler color sonography in 20 patients with cirrhosis and 10 healthy volunteers.

[Non-composite combined liver and intestinal allotransplantation].

Objective: To report the first case of non-composite combined liver and intestinal allotransplantation in China. The technical aspects of the case and pros and cons of such an approach versus composite technique were discussed.

Methods: The patient suffered from short bowel syndrome and TPN-related liver damage.
