Background: The Protocol for Responding to and Assessing Patient Assets, Risks, and Experiences (PRAPARE) is a nationally recognized standardized protocol that goes beyond medical acuity to account for patients' social determinants of health (SDH).
Aims: We described the magnitude of patient SDH barriers at health centers.
Methods: Health centers across three PRAPARE implementation cohorts collected and submitted PRAPARE data using a standardized data reporting template.
Tea is a popular beverage consumed at different temperatures. The effect of tea on teeth at different temperatures has not been studied previously. The present study used an in vitro green tea immersed tooth model at different tea temperatures (hot and cold) compared to an in vivo tea administration model allowing rats to drink tea over the course of a week.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: This study determined the associations between right atrial (RA) and right ventricular (RV) mechanics and liver stiffness in adults with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PAVIS), and pulmonary stenosis (PS).
Methods And Results: Ninety subjects including 26 repaired TOF, 24 PAIVS, and 20 PS patients and 20 controls were studied. Hepatic shear wave velocity and tissue elasticity (E), measures of liver stiffness, were assessed by two-dimensional shear wave elastography, while RA and RV mechanics were assessed by speckle tracking echocardiography.
Efforts to develop more environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional broad-spectrum pesticides in agriculture have recently turned to RNA interference (RNAi) technology. With the built-in, sequence-specific knockdown of gene targets following delivery of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), RNAi offers the promise of controlling pests and pathogens without adversely affecting non-target species. Significant advances in the efficacy of this technology have been observed in a wide range of species, including many insect pests and fungal pathogens.

Key findings include the discovery of somatic inflammatory gene mutations in ulcerative colitis epithelium, a unique mutational signature in colorectal cancer caused by genotoxic , and infection of intestinal organoids by SARS-CoV-2.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the United Kingdom (UK) formally reclassified sildenafil citrate 50 mg tablets as a pharmacy medicine (sildenafil-P) in 2017 for adult men with erectile dysfunction (ED). A 1-year prospective real-world observational study was conducted to track men's health behaviour, particularly their healthcare resource utilisation (HCRU) and quality of life (QoL) before and after the availability of sildenafil-P.
Methods: Adult men with ED aged ≥18 years provided data at baseline (prior to launch of sildenafil-P) and every 3 months after the launch.

Methods: We describe an educational initiative that comprised a POCUS workshop followed by allocation of a POCUS device to medical students for use over the subsequent 8 weeks. They were encouraged to scan patients and correlate their physical examination findings.
Protein glycosylation events that happen early in the secretory pathway are often dysregulated during tumorigenesis. These events can be probed, in principle, by monosaccharides with bioorthogonal tags that would ideally be specific for distinct glycan subtypes. However, metabolic interconversion into other monosaccharides drastically reduces such specificity in the living cell.

Background: Enteral feeding tubes are associated with their most serious complications in the days and weeks after insertion, but there are limited published data in the literature on late complications and the implications for the healthcare service.
Methods: This is a retrospective observational study of attendances to a UK hospital emergency department (ED), with enteral tube complications as the primary reason for attendance.
Results: Over 24 months, 139 attendances were recorded.
Intestinal failure, following extensive anatomical or functional loss of small intestine, has debilitating long-term consequences for children. The priority of patient care is to increase the length of functional intestine, particularly the jejunum, to promote nutritional independence. Here we construct autologous jejunal mucosal grafts using biomaterials from pediatric patients and show that patient-derived organoids can be expanded efficiently in vitro.

This study evaluated Phase 2 (2017-18) of that campaign, using three cross-sectional online surveys with men aged 18-54 years (n = 4352) and six focus groups with men aged 35-54 years and parents with children aged 5-12 years (n = 38), reflecting the campaign's target audiences. We used linear and logistic regressions to examine changes over time in key outcomes, consistent with the campaign's theorized hierarchy of effects.
