Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers created a NASH model in mice using a specific diet and administered rifaximin at different times to assess its preventive and therapeutic effects.
  • * Results showed that rifaximin significantly reduced NASH symptoms by restoring gut microbiota and improving intestinal barrier function, and it affected key liver proteins, suggesting it could be a new treatment strategy for NASH.

Achieving high -selective C-H functionalized products of benzoic acid derivatives using a designed template is still a daunting challenge because the carbonyl group also could coordinate with metal to activate the -C-H bond. Herein, we report the ligand promoted high -selective C-H olefination of benzoic acid derivatives; we screened a series of ligands increasing the ratio of :others from 62:38 to 96:4. This work may find application in the construction of -substituted benzoic acid derivatives.

Objective: Rifaximin is an effective component of treatment strategies for liver and intestinal diseases. However, the efficacy of rifaximin in hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (HSOS) has not been explored. The present study aimed to investigate the efficacy and mechanism of rifaximin in HSOS.

Objective: Abnormal liver function is a common form of extra-pulmonary organ damage in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Patients with severe COVID-19 have a higher probability and progression of liver injury than those without severe disease. We aimed to evaluate the prognosis of liver injury in patients with COVID-19.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of the MyoD protein in castration-resistant prostate cancer and its connection to cell growth and stress responses.
  • MyoD levels were found to be significantly higher in hormone-refractory prostate cancer tissues, and knocking it down slowed down cancer cell growth and increased cell death in low androgen conditions.
  • The research suggests that MyoD aids in fighting oxidative stress by activating antioxidant genes through a partnership with NRF1, highlighting a new potential target for treatment strategies in advanced prostate cancer.

Background: Reported studies on carcinoma have evaluated the significance of the microRNA miR-10b in the development and progression of many cancers. Increased expression of miR-10b is associated with the susceptibility to lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis in various tumors.

Results: The results of the meta-analysis revealed that lymph node metastasis occurred more frequently in the patients group with high expression level of miR-10b than in the patients group with low expression level of miR-10b (OR=4.

Background: Natural products from plants have been proven to be important resources of antitumor agents. In this study, we exploited the antitumor activity of (E)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-N-(7-hydroxy-6-methoxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl) acrylamide (SC-III3), a newly synthesized derivative of scopoletin, by in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Methods: Human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HepG2 cells and xenograft of HepG2 cells in BALB/c nude mice were used to investigate the effects of SC-III3 on hepatocellular cancers.

Objectives: This study attempted to quantify the degree of muscle fibrosis on sonograms of injured gastrocnemius muscles at different healing stages in a rat model. Correlations between the quantifications and histologic assessments of the injured muscles were also determined.

Methods: Sonograms and histologic findings of gastrocnemius muscle fibrosis were obtained during the second, third, and fourth weeks after surgically induced lesions in the right gastrocnemius muscles of 15 Wistar rats.
