Purpose: Different populations may exhibit differences in dietary intakes, which may result in heterogeneities in diet-disease associations. We compared intakes of major food groups overall, by sex, and by socio-economic status (SES) (defined as both education and income), between participants in the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) and the UK Biobank (UKB).
Methods: Data were from ~ 25,000 CKB participants who completed a validated interviewer-administered computer-based questionnaire (2013-2014) and ~ 74,000 UKB participants who completed ≥ 3 web-based 24-h dietary assessments (2009-2012).
Background: Little is known about the effects of maintaining healthy sleep patterns on frailty transitions.
Methods: Based on 23,847 Chinese adults aged 30-79 in a prospective cohort study, we examined the associations between sleep patterns and frailty transitions. Healthy sleep patterns included sleep duration at 7 or 8 h/d, without insomnia disorder, and no snoring.

Objectives: The aim was to explore the prospective association between fish consumption and COPD among a large population-based Chinese cohort.
Methods: The China Kadoorie Biobank recruited over 0.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a preoperative risk scoring model for distinguishing lymphoepithelioma-like gastric carcinoma (LELGC) from non-LELGC based on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) images.
Methods: Clinicopathological features and CT findings of patients with LELGC and non-LELGC in our hospital from January 2016 to July 2022 were retrospectively analyzed and compared. A preoperative risk stratification model and a risk scoring system were developed using logistic regression.
Background: Hypertension, a well-known risk factor, contributes to millions of deaths from cardiovascular and renal diseases worldwide. However, evidence on the association between frequency of dairy product consumption and hypertension is inconsistent.
Methods: The data for the present study are from the Tongxiang baseline dataset of the China Kadoorie Biobank prospective study.
Previous genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of stroke - the second leading cause of death worldwide - were conducted predominantly in populations of European ancestry. Here, in cross-ancestry GWAS meta-analyses of 110,182 patients who have had a stroke (five ancestries, 33% non-European) and 1,503,898 control individuals, we identify association signals for stroke and its subtypes at 89 (61 new) independent loci: 60 in primary inverse-variance-weighted analyses and 29 in secondary meta-regression and multitrait analyses. On the basis of internal cross-ancestry validation and an independent follow-up in 89,084 additional cases of stroke (30% non-European) and 1,013,843 control individuals, 87% of the primary stroke risk loci and 60% of the secondary stroke risk loci were replicated (P < 0.

However, the results from EWAS have been inconsistent, and longitudinal observations of these associations are scarce. Furthermore, few studies have investigated whether DNA methylation (DNAm) could be modified by smoking, drinking, and glycemic traits, which have broad impacts on genome-wide DNAm and result in altering the risk of T2DM.

Differentiating squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (SCCEG) from adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG) can indicate Siewert stage and whether the surgical route for patients with CEGJ is transthoracic or transabdominal, as well as aid in determining the extent of lymph node dissection. With the development of neoadjuvant therapy, preoperative determination of pathological type can help in the selection of neoadjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy regimens.

Design: A descriptive cross-sectional survey.
Setting: E-questionnaires were distributed to intensive care unit (ICU) nurses from 20 tertiary-grade, A-class hospitals in Henan Province, China.
To analyze the association between body mass index (BMI) and coronary heart disease. The data for the present study were from the prospective cohort study of China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) in Qingdao, a total of 33 355 participants aged 30-79 years were included in the study. Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association between BMI and coronary heart disease.

This preclinical study investigated the usefulness of a novel indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence spectroscopy system for tumor localization.

Background: In China, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence and mortality have been steadily increasing over the last decades. Risk models to predict incident CRC have been developed in various populations, but they have not been systematically externally validated in a Chinese population. This study aimed to assess the performance of risk scores in predicting CRC using the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB), one of the largest and geographically diverse prospective cohort studies in China.

High-quality oral care can reduce the incidence of incision infection and ventilator-associated pneumonia. However, there is a lack of guidelines or expert consensus on oral care after oral cancer surgery.

A case-cohort study included 882 T2D cases diagnosed during 8-years' follow-up and a subcohort of 789 participants. NMR-metabolomic profiling quantified 225 plasma biomarkers in stored samples taken at recruitment into the study.

Existing clinical TcES devices use largely variable design of electrode distribution and stimulation parameters. Better understanding of how electrode configuration paradigms and stimulation parameters influence the electric field distribution on the retina, will be beneficial to the design of next-generation TcES devices.

We aimed to evaluate the association between long-term exposure to PM and incidence of CVD in China. We performed a prospective cohort study in ten regions that recruited 512,689 adults during 2004-2008, with follow-up until 2017.

However, there is limited evidence on CVD subtypes [myocardial infarction (MI), ischemic stroke (IS), and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)], especially in the Chinese population. We examined these associations overall, by genetic predisposition to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and by lifestyle risk factors.

Background: A good organizational climate can contribute to a high level of work engagement. Adversity quotient and self-efficacy are the key factors affecting nurses' work engagement, while the mechanism of these factors in the organizational climate and work engagement remains unclear.
Background: Lifestyle factors are associated with chronic liver disease (CLD) and death after CLD diagnosis. However, their associations with pathways of CLD progression have been unclear, particularly transition to cardiometabolic disease (CMD), a major comorbid condition with CLD. We assessed the associations of lifestyle factors with CLD progression.
