Undesired browning reaction catalyzed by polyphenol oxidase (PPO) has reduced the nutritional quality and customer acceptance of the products. The inhibitory effects of six coastal plants including and on PPO in banana, sweet potato and ginger were studied based on oxidation of pyrocatechol. Banana exhibited the highest PPO activity (141,600 U), followed by sweet potato (43,440 U) and ginger (26,880 U).

A two-dimensional topological insulator exhibits helical edge states topologically protected against single-particle backscattering. Such protection breaks down, however, when electron-electron interactions are significant or when edge reconstruction occurs, leading to a suppressed density of states (DOS) at the Fermi level that follows universal scaling with temperature and energy, characteristic of Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL). Here, we grow multilayer FeSe on SrTiO by molecular beam epitaxy and observe robust edge states at both the {100}Se and the {110}Se steps using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy.

Background: The regulation of the transcription factor sex-determining region Y-box transcription factor 9 (SOX9) in lung development has been described in mouse, but the same principles apply to human lung development is unknown due to a lack of appropriate experimental approaches and models.

Methods: Here, we used gene editing technology to inactivate SOX9 in human embryonic stem cells that were then induced to differentiate into lung organoids to investigate the role of SOX9 in human lung epithelium development.

Results: Complete knockout of the transactivation domain of SOX9 by gene editing resulted in indels in both alleles of SOX9.

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) with highly metastatic features generally does not respond to anti-programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) therapy due to multiple immunosuppressive mechanisms to exclude and disable T cells. Here, we develop a polymer-based combinatory approach consisting of both immunogenic cell death (ICD)-inducing and CXCR4-inhibiting function to prime tumor microenvironment and improve anti-PD-L1 therapy in TNBC. Our findings revealed that the combination therapy was able to spur the T cell response in primary tumors by increasing the tumor immunogenicity to recruit T cells, removing the physiological barriers of intratumoral fibrosis and collagen to increase T cell infiltration, and reducing the immunosuppressive cells to revive T cells.
