Increasing attention has been attracted in developing new technologies to remove chlorofene (CF) and dichlorofene (DCF), which were active agents in antimicrobials for general cleaning and disinfecting. This study investigated the significant influences of bicarbonate (HCO) on the degradation of CF and DCF in the Cu(II)-mediated Fenton-like system Cu/HO. Our results indicate that HCO may play a dual role to act 1) as a ligand to stabilize Cu(II), forming soluble [Cu(HCO)(S)] species to catalyze HO producing hydroxyl radical (OH) and superoxide ion (O) and 2) as a OH scavenger.

The mechanisms and chemoselectivities on the Au(I)-catalyzed intermolecular condensation between homopropargyl alcohols and terminal alkynes were investigated by performing DFT calculations. The reaction was indicated to involve three stages: transformation of the homopropargyl alcohol (R) via intramolecular cyclization to the cyclic vinyl ether (R'), formation of the C-2-arylalkynyl cyclic ether (P) via hydroalkynylation of R' with phenylacetylene (R), and conversion from P to 2,3-dihydro-oxepine (P). The results revealed the origin of the reaction divergence and rationalized the experimental observations that a 1:3 reactant stoichiometric ratio affords P as the major product, whereas the 1:1.

Materials and structures that enable long-term, intimate coupling of flexible electronic devices to biological systems are critically important to the development of advanced biomedical implants for biological research and for clinical medicine. By comparison with simple interfaces based on arrays of passive electrodes, the active electronics in such systems provide powerful and sometimes essential levels of functionality; they also demand long-lived, perfect biofluid barriers to prevent corrosive degradation of the active materials and electrical damage to the adjacent tissues.
