Marine anammox bacteria-based Fe(II)-driven autotrophic denitratation and anammox (MFeADA) was investigated for nitrogen removal from saline wastewater for the first time. The study demonstrated that varying influent doses of Fe(II), which participate in the Fe cycle, significantly influenced nitrogen removal performance by altering the fate of nitrite. When 50 mg/L Fe(II) was added, the nitrogen removal was mainly performed by the anammox and Fe(II)-driven autotrophic denitratation (FeAD).

Asthenoteratozoospermia is a common cause of male infertility. To further define the genetic causes underlying asthenoteratozoospermia, we performed whole-exome sequencing in a cohort of Han Chinese men with asthenoteratozoospermia. Homozygous deleterious variants of MYCBPAP were first identified in two unrelated Chinese cases.

Growth Differentiation Factor-15 (GDF-15) is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a significant role in metabolism and inflammation. Elevated serum levels of GDF-15 have been associated with mood disorders. We propose that GDF-15 may potentially influence cognitive impairment and metabolism in male patients with chronic schizophrenia (CS), although there is limited research on this topic.

As natural nanoparticle, the bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMV) hold great potential in protein vaccines because of its self-adjuvant properties and good biocompatibility. However, the inherent immunotoxicity seriously hampers the application of OMV as protein antigens delivery carrier. Here, an attenuated OMV was constructed by elimination of the flagella protein from its surface and removal of the phosphate group of LPS at position one via gene-editing strategy.

A rapid and sensitive enrichment technique, field enhanced sample injection-dynamic pH junction-sweeping (FESI-DypH-sweeping) was successfully developed for the simultaneous separation and concentration of alkaloids and stereoisomers of Uncariae ramulus cum uncis (UR) by cyclodextrin electrokinetic chromatography (CDEKC) with diode array detection system. The sample was prepared in a low-conductivity (FESI), low-pH (DypH) sample matrix (4 mM phosphate buffer, 3% methanol, pH=3), and the background electrolyte (BGE) consisted of a high-conductivity, high-pH buffer (40 mM phosphate buffer, pH 7.0, 8 mg/mL carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin, and 30% methanol).

The population history of the northern coastal Chinese is largely unknown due to the lack of ancient human genomes from the Neolithic to historical periods. In this study, we reported 14 newly generated ancient genomes from Linzi, one of China's densely populated and economically prosperous cities from the Zhou to Han Dynasties. The ancient samples in this study were dated to the Warring States period to the Eastern Han Dynasty (∼2,000 BP).

Background: Liver metastasis from colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major clinical challenge that severely affects patient survival. myofibroblastic cancer-associated fibroblasts (myCAFs) are a major component of the CRC tumor microenvironment, where they contribute to tumor progression and metastasis through exosomes.

Methods: Single-cell analysis highlighted a notable increase in myCAFs in colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM).

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading public health concerns in the world. Therapeutic hypothermia is routinely used in severe TBI, and pathophysiological hyperthermia, frequently observed in TBI patients, has an unclear impact on drug transport in the injured brain due to a lack of study on its effects. We investigated the effect of post-traumatic therapeutic hypothermia at 33°C and pathophysiological hyperthermia at 39°C on brain transport and cell uptake of neuroprotectants after TBI.

The infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, also called CLN1 disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disease caused by mutations in the CLN1 gene encoding palmitoyl protein thioesterase 1 (PPT1). Identifying the depalmitoylation substrates of PPT1 is crucial for understanding CLN1 disease. In this study, we found that GABAR, the critical synaptic protein essential for inhibitory neurotransmission, is a substrate of PPT1.

Observational studies have reported a bidirectional correlation between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D), but the shared genetic basis between the two conditions remains unclear. Using genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data from European-ancestry populations, we examined the cross-trait genetic correlation and identified genomic overlaps and shared risk loci. We employed a latent causal variable model and Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to infer causal relationships.

Objective: This study aimed to systematically review the efficacy of telehealth approaches in alleviating depressive and anxiety symptoms in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist. Databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were searched for RCTs from database inception to June 2024.

Attenuated total reflectance surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (ATR-SEIRAS) plays a crucial role in understanding the interfacial reaction mechanisms at the molecular level, achieving an enhancement factor (EF) of up to 10. However, when this technique is integrated with electrochemistry (EC-ATR-SEIRAS), the EF is significantly reduced by ten- to hundred-fold. Thus, understanding of the key parameters that contribute to the EF is of great importance in designing high-performance substrates and extending the application for EC-SEIRAS.

The multi-modal knowledge graph completion (MMKGC) task aims to automatically mine the missing factual knowledge from the existing multi-modal knowledge graphs (MMKGs), which is crucial in advancing cross-modal learning and reasoning. However, few methods consider the adverse effects caused by different missing modal information in the model learning process. To address the above challenges, we innovatively propose a odal quilibrium elational raph framwork, called .

Regulating lithium salt dissociation kinetics by enhancing the interaction between inorganic fillers and lithium salts is vital for enhancing the ionic conductivity in solid-state composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs). However, the influence of fillers' external electronic environments on lithium salt dissociation dynamics remains unclear. Here, we design single-atom sites in metal-organic framework fillers for poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based CPEs, boosting lithium salt dissociation through an electrocatalytic strategy.

Objective: To determine the epidemiological cut-off (ECOFF) values of etimicin against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii and Staphylococcus aureus.

Methods: We selected 1500 isolates from five hospitals throughout five cities in China spanning from January 2018 to December 2021 in the study. Minimal inhibit concentrations (MICs) of etimicin were determined using the broth microdilution method.

Purpose: Sepsis is an unusual systemic reaction to what is sometimes an otherwise ordinary infection, and it probably represents a pattern of response by the immune system to injury. However, the relationship between biomarkers and sepsis remains unclear. This study aimed to find potential molecular biomarkers, which could do some help to patients with sepsis.

The present study aimed to evaluate the application of DNA ploidy analysis, human papillomavirus (HPV-DNA) test, and thin-prep cytologic test (TCT) for mass screening of cervical cancer (CC). A total of 13,830 patients who underwent both TCT and HPV-DNA tests from June 2021 to June 2022 were selected as study participants (10,107 patients from Shandong Provincial Hospital, 2447 patients from First People's Hospital of Tancheng County, and 1276 patients from Liaocheng People's Hospital). We also conducted a DNA ploidy analysis and compared the results.
