Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of leflunomide (L) added to the standard-of-care (SOC) treatment in COVID-19 patients hospitalised with moderate/critical clinical symptoms.
Design: Prospective, open-label, multicentre, stratified, randomised clinical trial.
Setting: Five hospitals in UK and India, from September 2020 to May 2021.
The proliferation of the biomarker Ki67 has been extensively studied in colorectal cancer (CRC). Although numerous Ki67 cut-off values have previously been reported, the optimal cut-off value remains unclear with previous studies providing contrasting results. The present retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the optimal cut-off value for CRC.

Peripheral odontogenic keratocysts are rarely observed, and cases of odontogenic keratocysts of buccal soft tissues are even rarer. This study was performed to present two rare cases of odontogenic keratocysts in buccal soft tissues and review related literature.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to explore the relationships of SAD assessed by forced expiratory flow between 25 and 75% (FEF25-75%), with clinical and inflammatory profile and treatment responsiveness in asthma.
Method: In study I, dyspnea intensity (Borg scale), chest tightness, wheezing and cough (visual analog scales, VASs), and pre- and post-methacholine challenge testing (MCT) were analyzed in asthma patients with SAD and non-SAD.
Purpose: A number of studies have provided concrete evidence about the role of Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) in the development and progression of cancer. As such LncRNAs are believed to exhibit the potential to be used as therapeutic targets for the treatment of cancer. This study was undertaken to investigate the role and therapeutic implication of LncRNA PCAT29 in triple-negative breast cancer.

Currently, an appropriate instrument to assess cultural competence in clinical practice is limited. The present study aimed to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Nursing Cultural Competence Scale (NCCS) for clinical nurses.

Cisplatin curbs cell replication by interacting with the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), reducing cell proliferation and eventually leading to cell death. In order to investigate the ability of platinum complexes to affect cancer cells, two examples from the class of polyfluorophenylorganoamidoplatinum(II) complexes were synthesised and tested on isolated DNA.

After incubation of the cells with cisplatin, 1 and 2 for 48 hours, distinct changes were found in the ATR-FT-IR spectra. Comparison of the second derivative spectra suggests that 1 and 2 induce similar chemical changes in both cell lines, A2780 and A2780R, while cisplatin had a slight effect on A2780 and A2780R cells.

Endophytic fungi play an important ecological role in promoting growth and alleviating environmental stress of host plants. In this study, we investigated the diversity and community composition of endophytic fungi isolated from the common reed in wetlands of the Yellow River Delta. A total of 318 endophytic fungal isolates were obtained from 1350 tissue (leaf, stem, and root) fragments and from three tidal zones with different soil salinity levels.

Methods: Adults with asthma (n = 230) underwent methacholine (Mch) challenge. Anxiety and depression, asthma control, and quality of life were evaluated at study entry by using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Asthma Control Test, and Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire, respectively.
The contribution of endogenous acetylcholine to alveolar fluid clearance (AFC) and related molecular mechanisms were explored. AFC was measured in Balb/c mice after vagotomy and vagus nerve stimulation. Effects of acetylcholine chloride on AFC in Kunming mice and Na,K-ATPase function in A549 alveolar epithelial cells also were determined.

Methods: Several studies have investigated finite element models for dental implants; however, only a few have examined a model for the implants during different stages of osseointegration. In this study, mandible models were reconstructed using computer tomographic data, and bone qualities and stress distributions were investigated as well.
Background: Human cells release nano-sized vesicles called exosomes, containing mRNA, miRNA and specific proteins. Exosomes from one cell can be taken up by another cell, which is a recently discovered cell-to-cell communication mechanism. Also, exosomes can be taken up by different types of cancer cells, but the potential functional effects of mast cell exosomes on tumor cells remain unknown.

Neojaponicone A (1) has an unprecedented carbon skeleton with an unusual valerolactone system formed between a guaianolide and an eudesmane. The structure and absolute configuration of 1 were established by extensive analysis of spectroscopic data and computational approaches.

The relationships between epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx), and the non-receptor tyrosine kinase c-Src were investigated. The HBx gene transfected SMMC-7721 cells underwent morphological changes from a classic epithelial morphology to a spindle-like shape. The HBx transfection increased the invasive potential of these cells.

Our previous studies suggest that excitatory projections from the nucleus tractus solitarii modulate cerebrovascular tone by actions on SSN neurons. In this study we sought to test the hypothesis that N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) type glutamate receptors and vesicular glutamate transporters (VGLUT) are present in the SSN and that SSN neurons receive glutamatergic input.
