Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are harmful chemicals to humans and widely detected in water bodies including tap water. PFAS cannot be efficiently removed from water through conventional treatment processes used in full-scale drinking water treatment plants, posing a latent risk to human health via drinking tap water. Here in-field investigations show that the household point-of-use (POU) water purifiers constituted with coconut shell activated carbon can achieve 21%-99% removal for 14 legacy and emerging PFAS in tap water based on the ratio of influent and effluent.

Sensitive detection of doxorubicin (DOX) is critical for clinical theranostics. A novel ratiometric fluorescence strategy based on the inner filter effect (IFE) has been established for the sensitive detection of DOX by designing a ratiometric fluorescence probe. In the presence of DOX, the fluorescence intensity of copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) at 485 nm decreases, and the fluorescence intensity of carbon dots at 560 nm increases.

This work describes the investigation of separation performance of the p-tert-butyl(tetradecyloxy)calix[6]arene (C6A-C10-OH) as stationary phase for gas chromatography (GC) separations. Its structure was characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The C6A-C10-OH column shows good separation capacity for aliphatic, aromatic and cis-/trans- isomers.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) prior to surgery is the standard treatment for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), while parts of them show poor therapeutic response accompanied by therapy adverse effects. Predictive biomarkers for nCRT response could facilitate the guidance on treatment decisions but are still insufficient until now, which limits the clinical applications of nCRT in LARC patients.

Methods: In our study, 37 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumor biopsies were obtained from patients with LARC before receiving 5-fluorouracil based nCRT.

We report a comprehensive proteomic study of a 90-case cohort of paired samples of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in quantification, phosphorylation, and DNA-binding capacity. Four integrative subtypes (iP-1-4) are stratified on the basis of global proteome and phosphoproteome, each of which exhibits distinct molecular and pathway features. Scaffold and co-expression network analyses of three proteomic datasets, integrated with those from genome and transcriptome of the same cohort, reveal key pathways and master regulators that, characteristic of TNBC subtypes, play important regulatory roles within and between scaffold sub-structures and co-expression communities.

Diarrhea, occurring due to intestinal flora disturbance, is potentially lethal, and its current treatments have adverse effects such as constipation and vomiting. oil (CSO) is a cooking ingredient and natural remedy used in several countries; however, its pharmacological effects on intestinal health remain unknown. Here, we explored the CSO treatment effects on intestinal flora in male ICR mice with castor oil-induced diarrhea.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical significance of prenatal diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of fetal intestinal malrotation with midgut volvulus via ultrasonography.

Material And Methods: Ultrasonographic findings and clinical outcomes of fetal intestinal malrotation with midgut volvulus prenatally diagnosed via ultrasound at the Zhangzhou Hospital Affiliated of Fujian Medical University from January 2013 to May 2020 were summarised and analyzed.

Results: Eleven cases of fetal intestinal malrotation with midgut volvulus were accurately prenatally diagnosed according to the specific ultrasound signs, such as 'whirlpool sign' and 'twining sign'.

Two-dimensional carbon nitride (2DCN) materials have emerged as an important class of 2D materials beyond graphene. However, 2DCN materials with nodal-line semimetal characteristic are rarely reported. In this work, a new nodal-line semimetal 2DCN with the stoichiometry C N is designed by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and its application to anchor single-atom catalysts (SACs) for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is investigated.

A Plantaginaceae flowering plant, Chelone glabra, is different from Arabidopsis thaliana and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), as it produces fibers on the anther surface. However, the evolutionary molecular mechanism of how fiber development is controlled in the stamen is unclear. MYB genes are essential transcription factors for trichome and fiber development in plants.

Objective: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) have been reported as effective exercise modes on bone metabolism. However, very few studies focused on young women with sedentary behavior. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 8-week HIIT on bone metabolism in sedentary young women.

Inflammation-associated proteinase functions are key determinants of inflammatory stromal tissues deconstruction. As a specialized inflammatory pathological process, dental internal resorption (IR) includes both soft and hard tissues deconstruction within the dentin-pulp complex, which has been one of the main reasons for inflammatory tooth loss. Mechanisms of inflammatory matrix degradation and tissue resorption in IR are largely unclear.

Chimeric RNAs (chiRNAs) play many previously unrecognized roles in different diseases including cancer. They can not only be used as biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of various diseases but also serve as potential therapeutic targets. In order to better understand the roles of chiRNAs in pathogenesis, we inserted human sequences into mouse genome and established a knockin mouse model of the tamoxifen-inducible expression of antisense chimeric RNA (chiRNA).

An algorithm that integrates the improved artificial fish swarm algorithm with continuous segmented Bézier curves is proposed, aiming at the path planning and smoothing of mobile robots. On the one hand, to overcome the low accuracy problems, more inflection points and relatively long planning paths in the traditional artificial fish swarm algorithm for path planning, feasible solutions and a range of step sizes are introduced based on Dijkstra's algorithm. To solve the problems of poor convergence and degradation that hinder the algorithm's ability to find the best in the later stage, a dynamic feedback horizon and an adaptive step size are introduced.

Chewing texture is important for fresh citrus fruits, and the mastication trait of a segment directly determines chewing texture. Roughing disorder impairs the quality of Satsuma mandarin fruits, and it is typically correlated with intrinsic mastication inferiority (IMI). This study explored the role of segment membranes (SMs) in IMI.

Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) provide a physical basis of molecular communications for a wide range of biological processes in living cells. Establishing the PPI network has become a fundamental but essential task for a better understanding of biological events and disease pathogenesis. Although many machine learning algorithms have been employed to predict PPIs, with only protein sequence information as the training features, these models suffer from low robustness and prediction accuracy.

Researchers often focus on the mechanisms of synergistic agents, a few explore drug combinations that enhance toxicity, while few have studied the internal mechanism of compatibility enhancement in chemical level. Herein, we present a comprehensive analysis based on ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS) and a self-assembled supramolecular strategy, which reveals the toxicity-enhancing essence of glycyrrhizic acid originated in licorice when combined with . Through this method, we discovered the toxicity was enhanced through the formation of a supramolecular complex from /glycyrrhizic acid.
