Background: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a critical approach for treating patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). A staging cardiac damage has been recently proposed that provided prognostic value in patients underwent TAVR, and left atrial volume index (LAVi) is a significant indicator of left heart damage. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of LAVi in patients with severe AS after TAVR.

Modulating mechanotransduction by inhibiting yes-associated protein (YAP) in mice yields wound regeneration without scarring. However, rodents are loose-skinned and fail to recapitulate key aspects of human wound repair. We sought to elucidate the effects of YAP inhibition in red Duroc pig wounds, the most human-like model of scarring.

Pancreatic islet transplantation is a crucial treatment for managing type 1 diabetes (T1D) in clinical settings. However, the limited availability of human cadaveric islet donors and the need for ongoing administration of immunosuppressive agents post-transplantation hinder the widespread use of this treatment. Stem cell-derived islet organoids have emerged as an effective alternative to primary human islets.

We have experimentally validated the use of sensorless adaptive optics (AO) to enhance laser scanning confocal microscopy in the second near-infrared (NIR II) spectral range, termed as AO-NIR II confocal microscopy. This approach harnesses a NIR II fluorophore, excited by an 808 nm wavelength and emitting beyond 1000 nm, to visualize intricate structures in deep brain tissues with the intact skull. By leveraging the reduced scattering and aberrations in the NIR II spectrum, we successfully captured a three-dimensional (3D) vascular structure map extending 310 µm beneath the skull.

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication of pregnancy, with significant short-term and long-term implications for both mothers and their offspring. Previous studies have indicated the potential benefits of vitamin D in reducing the risk of GDM, yet little is known about this association in twin pregnancies. This study aimed to investigate maternal vitamin D status in the second trimester and examine its association with the risk of GDM in twin pregnancies.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are useful tools for many applications. However, autonomous path planning for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in unfamiliar environments is a challenging problem when facing a series of problems such as poor consistency, high influence by the native controller of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. In this paper, we investigate reinforcement learning-based autonomous local path planning methods for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles with high autonomous decision-making capability and locally high portability.

The number of cancer survivors continues to increase because of advances in therapeutic modalities. Along with surgery and chemotherapy, radiotherapy is a commonly used treatment modality in roughly half of all cancer patients. It is particularly helpful in the oncologic treatment of patients with breast, head and neck, and prostate malignancies.

Meticulous understanding of the mechanisms underpinning mitral regurgitation in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients is crucial to optimize therapeutic strategies. The morphologic characteristics of mitral valves in atrial functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) patients with and without left ventricular (LV) dysfunction were evaluated by high volume rate (HVR) three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3D-TEE). In our study, 68 of 265 AF patients who underwent 3D-TEE were selected, including 36 patients with AF, FMR, and preserved LV function (AFMR group) and 32 patients with AF, FMR, and LV dysfunction (VFMR group).

The heart is one of the major organs affected by microwave radiation, and these effects have been extensively studied. Previous studies have shown that microwave-radiation-induced heart injury might be related to the abnormal expression and distribution of Cx43. In order to make the research model closer to humans, we used iPSC-CMs as the cell injury model to investigate the biological effect and mechanism of iPSC-CM injury after microwave radiation.

Cancer is currently the second leading cause of death in the United States. There is increasing evidence that the tumor microenvironment (TME) is pivotal for tumorigenesis and metastasis. Recently, adipocytes and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the TME have been shown to play a major role in tumorigenesis of different cancers, specifically melanoma.

Electromagnetic waves are widely used in both military and civilian fields, which could cause long-term and high-power exposure to certain populations and may pose a health hazard. The aim of this study was to simulate the long-term and high-power working environment of workers using special electromagnetic radiation occupations to clarify the radiation-induced stress response and cardiac damage and thus gain insights into the mechanisms of injuries caused by electromagnetic radiation. In this study, the combination of microwave and stress was an innovative point, aiming to broaden the research direction with regard to the effect and mechanism of cardiac injury caused by radiation.

Background And Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to dementia risk, partly explained by cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). Since AF and cardiovascular comorbidities were associated with cardiac dysfunction, we aimed to determine the association between echocardiographic parameters and neuroimaging markers of CSVD in patients with AF-related ischemic stroke.

Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with AF-related ischemic stroke from March 2013 to December 2019 who underwent transthoracic echocardiography and brain 3T MRI, including T1, T2, Flair, and SWI imaging sequences.

The two primary pathological alterations of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC), a rare cyanotic congenital heart disease (CHD), are right heart failure and pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH). The timing and prognosis of surgery depend on the level of pulmonary hypertension. Surgery will not be an option after Eisenmenger syndrome appears.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the co-existence of gestational diabetes (GDM) and hypertension disorders of pregnancy (HDP) on neonatal outcomes in twin pregnancies based on chorionicity.

Methods: A retrospective study of 1398 women with twin pregnancies was performed between January 2016 and December 2021. The effects of GDM and HDP on neonatal outcomes were assessed by logistic regression models.

The quadratic minimum spanning tree problem (QMSTP) is a spanning tree optimization problem that considers the interaction cost between pairs of edges arising from a number of practical scenarios. This problem is NP-hard, and therefore there is not a known polynomial time approach to solve it. To find a close-to-optimal solution to the problem in a reasonable time, we present for the first time a clustering-enhanced memetic algorithm (CMA) that combines four components, i.

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of heat shock protein 72 (Hsp72) changes in cardiac injury caused by microwave radiation, aimed at providing novel insights into the mechanism of this damage. A digital thermometer was used to measure the rectal temperature of the rats' pre- and post-radiation. On the 1, 7, 14, and 28 days post-radiation, the changes in electrocardiogram (ECG) were analyzed by a multi-channel physiological recorder.

Clinically, drug-induced torsades de pointes (TdP) are rare events, whereas the reduction of the human ether-à-go-go-related gene (hERG) current is common. In this study, we aimed to explore the specific factors that contribute to the deterioration of hERG inhibition into malignant ventricular arrhythmias. Cisapride, a drug removed from the market because it caused long QT (LQT) syndrome and torsade de pointes (TdP), was used to induce hERG inhibition.
