The extracellular superoxide dismutases (ecSODs) secreted by reduce the reactive oxygen species (ROS) stimulated by the . Here, we demonstrate that the bacterial transferase hexapeptide (hexapep) motif and bacterial-immunoglobulin-like (BIg-like) domain of ecSODs bind to the cell membrane and transiently open hemichannels, facilitating ROS reductions. RNAi-mediated ecSOD silencing elevated ROS in host hemocytes, impairing parasitoid larva development.

Article Synopsis
  • Exercise reduces the number of fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) in injured or disused muscles, which helps decrease collagen buildup and fat accumulation, mediated by a protein called Musclin.
  • Musclin works by inhibiting FAP growth and encouraging their death through a mechanism that involves upregulating a protein called FILIP1L, regulated by the transcription factor FoxO3a.
  • The study suggests that exercise creates a beneficial environment in muscles that helps prevent FAP overgrowth, and introducing Musclin could be a promising treatment for conditions like muscle atrophy or injuries.

Article Synopsis
  • - Propyl gallate (PG) is a common antioxidant used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, but recent studies indicate it may negatively affect reproductive health in humans and animals, specifically oocyte (egg) quality.
  • - Research on mice demonstrated that PG exposure disrupts oocyte meiosis by causing mitochondrial stress, leading to apoptosis (cell death) and significant DNA damage, which can halt oocyte development.
  • - The study also found that PG exposure increases levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and alters histone methylation, further contributing to the impairment of oocyte maturation.

The clinical comprehensive evaluation of drugs is an important basis for the return of clinical value, decision-making of medical and health authorities, and allocation of medical resources. In July 2021, the National Health Commission issued the Guidelines for the Management of Clinical Comprehensive Evaluation of Drugs(trial version 2021), which required the evaluation to be implemented from the six dimensions(safety, effectiveness, economy, innovation, suitability, and accessibility), and made detailed arrangements for the clinical comprehensive evaluation of drugs. As Chinese patent medicine differs from chemical medicines in terms of effective components and action modes, the clinical comprehensive evaluation of Chinese patent medicine should highlight the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) on the basis of general requirements of comprehensive clinical evaluation of drugs.
