Amphotericin B (AmB) causes toxicity to the erythrocyte membrane, leading to hemolysis, which limits the clinically effective dose for AmB intravenous therapy in invasive fungal infections. The molecular mechanism by which AmB adheres to the membrane of erythrocytes is the key factor in causing AmB to be toxic to the membrane of erythrocytes, but it is not yet fully understood; the mechanism by which AmB adheres to the liquid microdomains with higher fluidity formed by cholesterol and unsaturated phospholipids remains especially unclear. This study examined the adsorption of AmB at different concentrations, 5, 45, 85, and 125 μg/mL, on unsaturated phospholipid membranes containing 50 mol% cholesterol.

Epigenetics governs a chromatin state regulatory system through five key mechanisms: DNA modification, histone modification, RNA modification, chromatin remodeling, and non-coding RNA regulation. These mechanisms and their associated enzymes convey genetic information independently of DNA base sequences, playing essential roles in organismal development and homeostasis. Conversely, disruptions in epigenetic landscapes critically influence the pathogenesis of various human diseases.

Transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) nanowires have practical applications in 1D electron channels, spintronics, optoelectronics, and catalysis due to their authentic subnanometer width (<1 nm) and intrinsic metallicity. Although narrowing of a TMDC nanoribbon into a nanowire under electron irradiation has been frequently observed in the synthesis of TMDC nanowires, the mechanism underlying this unexpected structural transformation remains a mystery. Here, to reveal the underlying mechanism, we combine first-principles calculations with a global structure search of 1D nanowires and show that a nanoribbon of 1H-phase MoS with a width narrower than 6 rings is energetically unfavorable compared with its nanowire counterpart due to the edge-edge interaction.

The sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) primarily serves as the intracellular Ca store in cardiac myocytes, mediating cellular function under cardiac physiology and diseases. However, the properties of cardiac SR Ca have not yet been fully determined, particularly in rats and mice, which are the most commonly used experimental species in studies on cardiac physiology and diseases. Here, we developed a spatially detailed numerical model to deduce Ca movements inside the junctional SR (jSR) cisternae of rat cardiomyocytes.

This paper presents a multi-laser beam focusing on laser welding based on a reflective splitting mirror, aiming to improve the stability of the laser welding process and reduce welding defects. By validating the laser welding process on Q235 mild steel using a newly developed multi-focused laser beam, the results show that by increasing the number of laser focal points, the porosity and spattering are effectively reduced, thus achieving higher process stability. Additionally, the rotation of the laser focal point further reduces the occurrence of welding defects such as porosity and spattering.
