Although domestic pet ownership is on the rise, the impact of early life pet ownership on children's pet sensitization and atopic dermatitis (AD) remains controversial. Shanghai Allergy Cohort is an ongoing prospective study followed up to the age of 5 years. Pregnant mothers were recruited and their offspring were followed up every year by a group of pediatricians.

[Effects of artesunate on eosinophil apoptosis and expressions of Fas and Bcl-2 proteins in asthmatic mice].

Objective: To observe the effects of artesunate on eosinophil (EOS) apoptosis and Fas and Bcl-2 protein expressions in asthmatic mice.

Methods: Thirty female BALB/c mice aged 6-8 weeks were randomly divided into control group, asthma group and artesunate group. Except for those in the control group, all the mice were sensitized with aerosolized ovalbumin to establish mouse models of asthma.

Acupoint injection of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin polysaccharide nucleic acid for patients with chronic urticaria: A protocol for systematic review.

Background: To investigate the efficacy and safety of acupoint injection of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin polysaccharide nucleic acid (BCG-PSN) in the treatment of chronic urticaria (CU).

Methods: The following databases will be searched from their inception: Medline, Embase, Pubmed, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, China Biomedical Literature Database, China Science Journal Database, and Wanfang Database. All databases will be searched from the date of creation until October 2019.

Safety and efficacy of sirolimus combined with endocrine therapy in patients with advanced hormone receptor-positive breast cancer and the exploration of biomarkers.

Background: We performed a retrospective study on the efficacy and safety of sirolimus (an mTOR inhibitor) in hormone receptor (HR)-positive advanced breast cancer and searched for biomarkers to predict its efficacy.

Methods: All patients with HR-positive metastatic breast cancer treated with sirolimus plus endocrine therapy between December 2017 and July 2018 at the Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences were consecutively and retrospectively reviewed. Mutations in circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) were assayed for 1021 tumour-related genes via gene panel target capture-based next-generation sequencing.

Overexpression of circARF3 mitigates TNF-α-induced inflammatory damage by up-regulating miR-125b.

Treatment of Hyperkeratotic Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus with combination of holmium laser therapy and ALA-PDT:case report.

A 72-year old woman who has a history of refractory vulvar lichen sclerosus(VLS) was treated with ALA-PDT for 3 times every other week,then holmium laser and ALA-PDT were combined to treat the same areas at a time.Satisfactory result was noted without any unbearable adverse effects.The combination of holmium laser therapy and ALA-PDT may further improve the efficacy with good tolerance of VLS patients.

Neuropeptide Y Induces Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy Attenuating miR-29a-3p in Neonatal Rat Cardiomyocytes.

Background: Neuropeptide Y (NPY) has been well known to induce Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy (CH), which is possibly caused by disruption of cardiac cell energy balance. As mitochondria is losely related to energy metabolism, in this study, we investigated the changes in mitochondrial Dynamics-related protein (Drp1) expression under the action of NPY. miRNA-29a, a endogenous noncoding small molecule RNA which is involved in many cardiac diseases, by using a bioinformatics tool, we found a potential binding site of miRNA-29a on the Drp1 mRNA, and suggesting that miRNA-29a might play a regulatory role.

A comprehensive review of the roles of E2F1 in colon cancer.

E2F transcription factor 1 (E2F1) is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors. E2F1 binds to DNA with dimerization partner (DP) proteins through an E2 recognition site. The dissociation of E2F1 from retinoblastoma (Rb) protein recovers its transcriptional activity, which drives the cell cycle from the G1 to S phase.

Qualitative analysis of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the diagnosis of small, TR3-5 benign and malignant thyroid nodules measuring ≤1 cm.

Objective: To evaluate the performance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the diagnosis of small, solid, TR3-5 benign and malignant thyroid nodules (≤1 cm).

Methods: From January 2016 to March 2018, 185 thyroid nodules from 154 patients who underwent contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and fine-needle aspiration or thyroidectomy in Shanghai General Hospital were included. The χ test was used to compare the CEUS characteristics of benign and malignant thyroid nodules, and the CEUS features of malignant nodules assigned scores.

Potential Vector Competence of Mosquitoes to Transmit Baiyangdian Virus, a New Tembusu-Related Virus in China.

A new duck Tembusu-related flavivirus, Baiyangdian virus (BYDV), caused duck egg-drop syndrome in China. The rapid spread, unknown transmission routes, and zoonotic nature, raise serious concern about BYDV as a potential threat to human health. The study provides the first evaluation on the vector competence of and mosquitoes to transmit BYDV in China.

Diagnostic efficacy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound for breast lesions of different sizes: a comparative study with magnetic resonance imaging.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), MRI, and the combined use of the two modalities for differentiating breast lesions of different sizes.

Methods: A total of 406 patients with 406 solid breast masses detected by conventional ultrasound underwent both CEUS and MRI scans. Histological results were used as reference standards.

Gold-Nanobipyramid-Based Nanotheranostics for Dual-Modality Imaging-Guided Phototherapy.

Multimodality imaging-guided therapy can improve the diagnostics and therapeutics efficiency of cancer. Herein, we developed a light-responsive nanotheranostic agent based on the indocyanine green (ICG) conjugated mesoporous silica coated gold nanobipyramid (GNB@SiO) (denoted as GNB@SiO-ICG) for simultaneous fluorescence (FL)/photoacoustic (PA) imaging-guided photothermal therapy (PTT). The GNB@SiO with excellent photostability was used for PA imaging as well as PTT.

Hypermethylation of miR-34b/c is associated with early clinical stages and tumor differentiation in Kazakh patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

DNA hypermethylation in tumor suppressor genes has been reported in some cancers. The microRNA-34b/c (miR-34b/c) serves as tumor suppressors in different tumor types. To investigate the methylation status of miR-34b/c in ESCC, MALDI-TOF MS was used to quantitatively analyze the DNA methylation of 16 CpG sites within miR-34b/c in 145 ESCC samples, 60 cancer-adjacent normal (ACN) samples and 39 normal esophageal (NE) samples from the Kazakh population.

Longitudinal HER2 amplification tracked in circulating tumor DNA for therapeutic effect monitoring and prognostic evaluation in patients with breast cancer.

Background: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2) status is a crucial predictive factor for prognostic assessment and targeted therapy selection, which may be influenced by intratumor heterogeneity and molecular divergence between the primary site and different metastases. Therefore, we performed a prospective study to confirm the concordance of HER2 amplification in circulating tumor DNA(ctDNA) with primary tumor tissue and verified its clinical implications.

Methods: A total of 105 breast cancer patients were enrolled, and dynamic monitoring of HER2 copy numbers in ctDNA was conducted in 31 participants during the treatment.

Objective: To identify the efficacy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in re-evaluating masses with inconsistent Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) on mammography (MG) and conventional ultrasound (US).

Materials And Methods: A total of 637 breast lesions were evaluated with MG, US, and CEUS within 6 months and assessed as BI-RADS MG and US. CEUS was used as an additional screening to rerate BI-RADS US according to a five-point system.

Muscle fatigue detection and treatment system driven by internet of things.

Background: Internet of things is fast becoming the norm in everyday life, and integrating the Internet into medical treatment, which is increasing day by day, is of high utility to both clinical doctors and patients. While there are a number of different health-related problems encountered in daily life, muscle fatigue is a common problem encountered by many.

Methods: To facilitate muscle fatigue detection, a pulse width modulation (PWM) and ESP8266-based fatigue detection and recovery system is introduced in this paper to help alleviate muscle fatigue.

A TGF-β-MTA1-SOX4-EZH2 signaling axis drives epithelial-mesenchymal transition in tumor metastasis.

MTA1, SOX4, EZH2, and TGF-β are all potent inducers of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancer; however, the signaling relationship among these molecules in EMT is poorly understood. Here, we investigated the function of MTA1 in cancer cells and demonstrated that MTA1 overexpression efficiently activates EMT. This activation resulted in a significant increase in the migratory and invasive properties of three different cancer cell lines through a common mechanism involving SOX4 activation, screened from a gene expression profiling analysis.

MTA1 promotes tumorigenesis and development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma via activating the MEK/ERK/p90RSK signaling pathway.

Metastasis-associated protein 1 (MTA1) is upregulated in multiple malignancies and promotes cancer proliferation and metastasis, but whether and how MTA1 promotes esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) tumorigenesis remain unanswered. Here, we established an ESCC model in MTA1 transgenic mice induced by the chemical carcinogen 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4-NQO) and found that MTA1 promotes ESCC tumorigenesis in mice. MTA1 overexpression was observed in ESCC cells and clinical ESCC samples.
