Molten carbonate salts are a promising candidate for next-generation concentrated solar power technology owing to their excellent heat storage and heat transfer properties. This represents overcoming several problems that structural materials exhibit, including severe corrosion and high-temperature creep. Alloys with an aluminum element are alternatives in this regard as they are highly resistant to corrosive environments.

This paper presents a methodological approach for assessing the relationship between weather patterns, regional climate trends, and public perceptions of global warming in the United States with control of socioeconomic, political, and ideological variables. We combined social survey data from the Gallup Poll Social Series (GPSS) with environmental data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the PRISM Climate Group. Logistic regression models were employed, enhanced by Eigenvector Spatial Filtering (ESF) to address spatial autocorrelation.

Comorbidity among atopic diseases (ADs) and gastrointestinal diseases (GIDs) has been repeatedly demonstrated by epidemiological studies, whereas the shared genetic liability remains largely unknown. Here we establish an atlas of the shared genetic architecture between 10 ADs or related traits and 11 GIDs, comprehensively investigating the comorbidity-associated genomic regions, cell types, genes and genetically predicted causality. Although distinct genetic correlations between AD-GID are observed, including 14 genome-wide and 28 regional correlations, genetic factors of Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), celiac disease and asthma subtypes are converged on CD4 T cells consistently across relevant tissues.

Introduction: Skin is the first-line barrier defense against infection, irradiation, and toxins, but is prone to natural aging (intrinsic aging) and environmental factors (extrinsic aging). Hence, there is an increasing urgency to explore an effective treatment for aging skin. This study was focused on testing the potential of utilizing adipocyte stem cell derived exosomal as nanomedicine to regenerate the dermal layer and counteract signs of skin aging.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an insidious, progressive, and irreversible neurodegenerative disease characterized by the deposition of extracellular amyloid β-protein (Aβ) to form senile plaques and abnormal phosphorylation of intracellular tau protein to form neuronal fiber tangles. The pathogenesis of AD is complex, and there are several hypotheses, primarily including the Aβ cascade hypothesis, the neurofibrillary tangle hypothesis, the inflammatory hypothesis, and the cholinergic hypothesis. It has been suggested that the dysregulation of multiple energy metabolic pathways, especially mitochondria metabolism, may be related to the severity of AD pathology and disease symptoms in the brain.

Lycium barbarum is a type of "medicine-food homology" whose geographical origin has attracted strong interest from consumers due to different regional quality characteristics. A sophisticated OPLS-DA model to verify Lycium barbarum origin was developed using 266 samples gathered from five cultivars in two regions between 2020 and 2022, which was based on 67 indices, including nutrients, bioactives, elements and stable isotopes. Twelve variables (fructose, δH, glucose, tartaric acid, Mo, Na, Sr, His, Phe, Mn, Lys and Rb) were selected to refine models that could distinguish Lycium barbarum origin without being impacted by cultivar or year.

Water splitting hinges crucially on the availability of electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction. The surface reconstruction has been widely observed in perovskite catalysts, and the reconstruction degree has been often correlated with the activity enhancement. Here, a systematic study on the roles of Fe substitution in activation of perovskite LaNiO is reported.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the effects of two types of rumen-protected methionine (coated methionine and HMBi) on growth, serum biochemistry, and rumen microbiota in meat goats, revealing both supplements improve growth performance, with HMBi being more effective.
  • Both supplements significantly increased certain serum biochemical markers while lowering triglycerides and butyric acid levels, indicating a change in the goats' metabolic profiles.
  • Microbiota analysis showed that while both supplements altered bacterial populations in the rumen, HMBi notably boosted beneficial bacterial strains but also raised ammonia-producing bacteria, affecting overall gut health.

Peri-implantitis, a complex condition that can lead to dental implant failure, is characterized by inflammatory destruction resulting from immune dysregulation. Oral microbial dysbiosis and foreign body stimulation are the main factors contributing to such dysregulation, impairing immune cell function and triggering an inflammatory response. Immune dysregulation plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of peri-implantitis, impacting the balance of T cell subsets, the production of inflammatory factors, and immune-related molecular signaling pathways.

The safe and fast measurement of volume of detonation (VoD) is always a hard task for macroscale explosion even though it is one of the important parameters to evaluate the explosion performance. Therefore, a promising technology to determine the VoD is highly desirable for evaluation of energetic materials. Herein, a new method of VoD determination based on gaseous products via small dose energetic materials by time correlated laser induced plasma spectroscopy (LIPS) combined with schlieren image was proposed.

  • The study focuses on accurately measuring ash, fixed carbon, and volatile matter in coal while accounting for the moisture content that affects the results.
  • Researchers used a method called PCA-PLS to analyze coal samples with moisture levels between 3% and 15% and found that higher moisture content increases prediction errors in the measurement models.
  • To improve accuracy, the team introduced an infrared CO laser technique to quickly dry moist coal samples, significantly reducing prediction errors and showcasing the method's potential for real-time detection in high-moisture coal environments.

Numerous efforts have been devoted to harvesting sustainable energy from environment. Among the promising renewable resources, ambient heat exhibits attractive prospects due to its ubiquity and inexhaustibility, and has been converted into electricity through water evaporation-induced hydrovoltaic approaches. However, current hydrovoltaic approaches function only in low-humidity environments and continuously consume water.

By establishing an model of D-Gal-induced brain neuronal cell (HT-22) senescence, it was found that TAX treatment significantly increased the activities of SOD and GSH, while decreasing MDA levels in aging HT-22 cells, indicating that TAX effectively restored the total antioxidant capacity and antioxidant enzyme activity of aging HT-22 cells induced by D-Gal, and attenuated cellular oxidative stress injury. In addition, taxifolin could also protect HT-22 cells from aging by up-regulating SIRT1 while reducing the expression of Ac-p53, indicating that TAX may be an active substance that can effectively delay cell aging.
