The supply of battery-grade nickel to produce positive electrodes of sodium-ion batteries may soon become insufficient. For this reason, it is crucial to find new electrode materials that minimize its use or even fully remove this element from synthesis. We have prepared a NaMgFeNiMnO (0 ≤ ≤ 0.

In Colombia, medical physics started formally about 3 decades ago. Two master's programs in medical physics initiated activities at two different universities. In particular, the master's program at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana has been underway since 2012, and taking into account its projections, a team was established in 2015 in collaboration with the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas to conduct basic research on cancer treatment using neutron capture therapy (NCT).

Background: Radiotherapy (RT) is an essential element in cancer treatment: 50-70% of cancer patients receive RT at some time of the course of their disease. Of these, almost 95% experience some grade of radiation dermatitis (RD). RD can affect patient's quality of life during and after treatment.

Longus colli tendonitis is an uncommon aseptic inflammatory condition that affects the prevertebral longus colli tendon, which is a muscle that courses anteriorly from the level of the C1 to T3 vertebrae (1,2). Although longus colli tendonitis is a self-limited condition, the longus colli muscle is anterior to the prevertebral space and posterior to the pharyngeal constrictors, therefore when inflamed, leads to a myriad of symptoms that often mimic more serious conditions such as retropharyngeal abscess or meningitis (2). We present a case of a 39-year-old white male that presented with neck pain, neck stiffness, and pain with swallowing.

The Finnish Diabetes Risk Score (FINDRISC) has been implemented to assess diabetes risk. The authors aimed in this study to determine the prediction capacity of FINDRISC for the early detection of cardiovascular diseases in women. A prevalence study was carried out on 441 women of Pueblo Libre (Peru).

Vibrio parahaemolyticus has been recognized as the causal agent of early mortality syndrome and is currently considered an emerging shrimp disease causing losses of millions in the aquaculture industry. Integral membrane proteins are widely recognized as pathogenicity factors involved in essential mechanisms for V. parahaemolyticus infection, which makes them attractive as therapeutic targets.

The markedly anthropophilic and endophilic behaviors of Aedes aegypti (L.) make it a very efficient vector of dengue, chikungunya, and Zika viruses. Although a large body of research has investigated the immature habitats and conditions for adult emergence, relatively few studies have focused on the indoor resting behavior and distribution of vectors within houses.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis represents one of the world's most devastating infectious agents - with one third of the world's population infected and 1.5 million people dying each year from this deadly pathogen. As part of an effort to identify targets for therapeutic intervention, we carried out the kinetic characterization of the product of gene rv1700 of M.

Food consumers and industries urged the need of natural alternatives to assure food safety and quality. As a response, the use of natural compounds from herbs and spices is an alternative to synthetic additives associated with toxic problems. This review discusses the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of oregano essential oil (OEO) and its potential as a food additive.

The genome of the thermophilic fungus Scytalidium thermophilum (strain CBS 625.91) harbours a wide range of genes involved in carbohydrate degradation, including three genes, abf62A, abf62B and abf62C, predicted to encode glycoside hydrolase family 62 (GH62) enzymes. Transcriptome analysis showed that only abf62A and abf62C are actively expressed during growth on diverse substrates including straws from barley, alfalfa, triticale and canola.

Introduction: Caring for people with HIV is an exercise of reflection and self-analysis in relation to our own beliefs about it. Along with the personal and social values, future nursing professional' beliefs have an important paper in the field of stigmatized diseases such as HIV infection, and may have an impact on nursing care. The aim of this study is to deeply know the meaning of the possibility of living with HIV among nursing students, bringing us a closer understanding of the subjective beliefs that give meaning to the act of caring.

Many food preservation strategies can be used for the control of microbial spoilage and oxidation; however, these quality problems are not yet controlled adequately. Although synthetic antimicrobial and antioxidant agents are approved in many countries, the use of natural safe and effective preservatives is a demand of food consumers and producers. This paper proposes medicinal plants, traditionally used to treat health disorders and prevent diseases, as a source of bioactive compounds having food additive properties.

Organophosphorous (OP) compounds are the most commonly used pesticides. There are several published reports on the direct toxicity of OP pesticides, but few data on the toxicity of their metabolites. To determine if diethylthiophosphate (DETP) and diethyldithiophosphate (DEDTP), two of the major OP metabolites, demonstrate genotoxicity, and to elucidate the possible genotoxic mechanisms, we treated WRL68, HepG2, HeLa and human blood cells with different concentrations of DETP and DEDTP.

Background And Objective: Elevated serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a major cardiovascular risk factor. This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of co-administration of the cholesterol absorption inhibitor ezetimibe with an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) in the treatment of Mexican patients with dyslipidaemia who had not attained the LDL-C treatment goal with statin monotherapy.

Material And Methods: We studied 256 patients with elevated serum LDL-C (as defined by the US National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III guidelines) despite statin therapy.

HOXD13, the homeobox-containing gene located at the most 5' end of the HOXD cluster, plays a critical role in limb development. It has been shown that mutations in human HOXD13 can give rise to limb malformations, with variable expressivity and a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations. Polyalanine expansions in HOXD13 cause synpolydactyly, whereas amino acid substitutions in the homeodomain are associated with brachydactyly types D and E.

Zygosaccharomyces bailii, a spoilage yeast, capable of metabolic activity in food environments with low pH, low a(w) and in the presence of weak acid preservatives was chosen for a study on the effect of benzoic acid on growth parameters. In batch cultures, under controlled pH, this food preservative inhibited growth, decreasing the specific growth rate (mu) and the yield coefficient (Y(S)) on glucose. Data obtained at pH 3.
