Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have emerged as versatile materials with many applications, such as carbon capture, molecular separation, catalysis, and energy storage. Traditionally, flexible building blocks have been avoided due to their potential to disrupt ordered structures. Recent studies have demonstrated the intriguing properties and enhanced structural diversity achievable with flexible components by judicious selection of building blocks.

Navigating meaningful engagement: lessons from partnering with youth and families in brain-based disability research.

Background: While patient and family engagement in research has become a widespread practice, meaningful and authentic engagement remains a challenge. In the READYorNot™ Brain-Based Disabilities Study, we developed the MyREADY Transition™ Brain-Based Disabilities App to promote education, empowerment, and navigation for the transition from pediatric to adult care among youth with brain-based disabilities, aged 15-17 years old. Our research team created a Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) to engage adolescents, young adults, and parent caregivers as partners throughout our multi-year and multi-stage project.

Lava dome cycles reveal rise and fall of magma column at Popocatépetl volcano.

Lava domes exhibit highly unpredictable and hazardous behavior, which is why imaging their morphological evolution to decipher the underlying governing mechanisms remains a major challenge. Using high-resolution satellite radar imagery enhanced with deep-learning, we image the repetitive dome construction-subsidence cycles at Popocatépetl volcano (Mexico) with very high temporal and spatial resolution. We show that these cycles resemble gas-driven rise and fall of the upper magma column, where buoyant bubble-rich magma is extruded from the conduit (in ~hours-days), and successively drained back (in ~days-months) as magma degasses and crystallizes.

A Taxonomically-verified and Vouchered Checklist of the Vascular Plants of the Republic of Guinea.

The Checklist of the Vascular Plants of the Republic of Guinea (CVPRG) is a specimen-based, expert-validated knowledge product, which provides a concise synthesis and overview of current knowledge on 3901 vascular plant species documented from Guinea (Conakry), West Africa, including their accepted names and synonyms, as well as their distribution and status within Guinea (indigenous or introduced, endemic or not). The CVPRG is generated automatically from the Guinea Collections Database and the Guinea Names Backbone Database, both developed and maintained at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in collaboration with the staff of the National Herbarium of Guinea. A total of 3505 indigenous vascular plant species are reported of which 3328 are flowering plants (angiosperms); this represents a 26% increase in known indigenous angiosperms since the last floristic overview.

Increasing Frequency of Affirmed Name and Pronoun Documentation in a Pediatric Emergency Department.

Background And Objectives: In a previous study of 204 transgender and gender diverse youth in our region, 44% reported being made to feel uncomfortable in the emergency department (ED) because of their gender identity. The objective of our study was to conduct a 2 year quality improvement project to increase affirmed name and pronoun documentation in the pediatric ED.

Micropatterning of acoustic droplet vaporization in acoustically-responsive scaffolds using extrusion-based bioprinting.

Acoustically-responsive scaffolds (ARSs) are composite hydrogels that respond to ultrasound in an on-demand, spatiotemporally-controlled manner due to the presence of a phase-shift emulsion. When exposed to ultrasound, a gas bubble is formed within each emulsion droplet via a mechanism termed acoustic droplet vaporization (ADV). In previous and studies, we demonstrated that ADV can control regenerative processes by releasing growth factors and/or modulating micromechanics in ARSs.

Matrix effects on hydrogen bonding and proton transfer in fluoropyridine - HCl complexes.

We report an extensive computational and spectroscopic study of several fluoropyridine-HCl complexes, and the parent, pyridine-HCl system. Matrix-IR spectra for pentafluoropyridine-HCl, 2,6-difluororpyridine-HCl, and 3,5-difluororpyridine-HCl in solid neon exhibit shifts for the H-Cl stretching band that parallel the effects of fluorination on hydrogen-bond strength. Analogous spectral shifts observed across various host environments (solid neon, argon, and nitrogen) for pentafluoropyridine-HCl and 2,6-difluororpyridine-HCl convey a systematically varying degree of matrix stabilization on the hydrogen bonds in these complexes.

Generation of human long-lived plasma cells by developmentally regulated epigenetic imprinting.

Antibody secreting cells (ASCs) circulate after vaccination and infection and migrate to the BM where a subset known as long-lived plasma cells (LLPCs) persists and secrete antibodies for a lifetime. The mechanisms by which circulating ASCs become LLPCs are not well elucidated. Here, we show that human blood ASCs have distinct morphology, transcriptomes, and epigenetics compared with BM LLPCs.

Plasma cell survival: The intrinsic drivers, migratory signals, and extrinsic regulators.

Antibody-secreting cells (ASC) are the effectors of protective humoral immunity and the only cell type that produces antibodies or immunoglobulins in mammals. In addition to their formidable capacity to secrete massive quantities of proteins, ASC are terminally differentiated and have unique features to become long-lived plasma cells (LLPC). Upon antigen encounter, B cells are activated through a complex multistep process to undergo fundamental morphological, subcellular, and molecular transformation to become an efficient protein factory with lifelong potential.

Psychooncological distress in low-grade glioma patients-a monocentric study.

Background: Patients diagnosed with low-grade glioma (LGG) must live with constant knowledge of an upcoming malignant tumor transformation which may lead to increased anxiety and reduced quality of life. Here, we (1) analyzed the prevalence and risk factors for distress in LGG patients using (2) different screening tools to subsequently (3) evaluate their need for psychological support.

Method: Patients with LGG-suspicious findings in MRI studies as well as patients with histopathological confirmed LGG were screened using three established self-assessment instruments (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Distress Thermometer, EORTC-QLQ-C30-BN20).

Does Peritraumatic Ketamine Reduce Symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Introduction: Acute stress disorder (ASD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are chronic diseases which can affect patients following a severe trauma. As these patients typically first present to the emergency department, it is critical for emergency physicians to remain updated on the use of ketamine or other anesthetic agents which may impede development or reduce symptoms which may impair normal functioning. The purpose of this clinical review was is to review the literature regarding how the use of peritraumatic ketamine could decrease the incidence of ASD and PTSD.

Tectonics, climate and the diversification of the tropical African terrestrial flora and fauna.

Tropical Africa is home to an astonishing biodiversity occurring in a variety of ecosystems. Past climatic change and geological events have impacted the evolution and diversification of this biodiversity. During the last two decades, around 90 dated molecular phylogenies of different clades across animals and plants have been published leading to an increased understanding of the diversification and speciation processes generating tropical African biodiversity.

Central giant cell granuloma mimicking a periapical lesion of endodontic origin: A case report.

This paper aims to report a case in which central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) mimicked a periapical lesion of endodontic origin. An 18-year-old female patient was referred for diagnosis and treatment of extensive radiolucent periapical lesion involving 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 teeth. Clinically, the patient presented slight facial asymmetry and healthy teeth on the affected side with positive response to thermal vitality tests.

Computational discrimination between natural images based on gaze during mental imagery.

When retrieving image from memory, humans usually move their eyes spontaneously as if the image were in front of them. Such eye movements correlate strongly with the spatial layout of the recalled image content and function as memory cues facilitating the retrieval procedure. However, how close the correlation is between imagery eye movements and the eye movements while looking at the original image is unclear so far.

Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders in Adolescent Athletes.

Context: To summarize available literature to date and discuss the importance of Disordered Eating (DE) in adolescent athletes, with special attention to the female athlete triad. In this paper, the authors will review the literature regarding adolescent athletes who intentionally engage in abnormal eating behaviors and focus on adolescent athletes of all training levels who may be affected by both DE and eating disorders (ED).

Methods: In 2019, the authors completed a systematic literature search on PubMed using the search term variations of "Feeding and Eating Disorders" and "athletes" with "high school.

Fused tooth: clinical approach to endodontic treatment.

Tooth fusion, the union of 2 developing dental germs, can affect the primary and permanent dentitions as well as supernumerary teeth. The anatomy of fused teeth represents a challenge when endodontic treatment is needed. This case report describes the endodontic treatment performed in a permanent maxillary incisor fused to a supernumerary tooth.

Prognostic impact of atrial fibrillation and flutter temporal pattern on anticoagulation and return visits to the emergency department: A historic cohort of 1112 patients.

Background: Emergency department (ED) visits due to atrial fibrillation and flutter (AFF) are common, and provide an opportunity to define stroke risk. The prognostic impact of AFF duration on return ED visits is unknown. We aimed to investigate both the prognostic impact of AFF classification on ED visits and the adherence to guideline recommendations on anticoagulation.

Severe Hepatotoxicity of Mithramycin Therapy Caused by Altered Expression of Hepatocellular Bile Transporters.

Mithramycin demonstrates preclinical anticancer activity, but its therapeutic dose is limited by the development of hepatotoxicity that remains poorly characterized.
