This article is devoted to the history of one of the oldest Siberian health resorts known as "The Karachi Lake". It describes the stages of its development, the scientific component of the system of spa-and-resort therapy and medico-social rehabilitation of the patients. The detailed analysis of the mechanisms underlying the beneficial action of the natural therapeutic factors, cooperation with the leading research institutions, and the formation of the modern scientific and technical basis have strengthened the position of the resort on the market of the medical, health-promoting, and recreational services due to the development of the new activities in this field.

Study of biological cycles in chronic cholecystitis with dysfunction of gallbladder has a great practical importance. The results of chronoanalysis testify a dominance of 24-hours cycle in structure of cycles of functional activity of organs of hepatobiliary system. The comparative analysis of trust intervals reveals the intensification of internal connections, expressed intensification of synchronization of cycles of functional activity of system and a breach of synchronism of central regulation and self-regulation, testifying overstrain of proper adaptive possibilities and unconcordance in system of regulation.

One of the complications of specific antiblastoma therapy in the patients presenting with malignant neoplasms is the suppressed functional activity of blood neutrophil granulocytes. The results of clinical and experimental investigations suggest the enhanced enzymatic activity of neutrophils and lymphocytes under effect of ultrahigh-frequency electromagnetic radiation (UHF EMR). Our study has demonstrated that UHF EMR with a frequency selected on an individual basis in the range from 59 to 63 GHz exerts the protective action on the function and metabolism of blood neutrophils exposed to the damaging action of gamma-radiation in the patients presenting with lung cancer.

This study included 188 patients presenting with pathology of the biliary system, such as dyskinesia of bile ducts, chronic non-calculous cholecystitis (CCC), and dysfunction of the bile system. The objective of the work was to develop complexes of intensive non-medicamental rehabilitative treatment for the correction of the adaptive potential of the organism in the springtime (March-May). It was shown that the efficacy of therapy during this period can be improved by modulation of the complex structure.

Modified cosinor-analysis was used to calculate biorhythmologic characteristics (period, amplitude, phase, mesor) of the circumannual rhythm of neuroendocrine regulation parameters, the state of bioradical hemostasis, and protein components of non-specific resistance in patients with osteoarthrosis living in moderate climates. Near-annual rhythms of these parameters are described. The chronological analysis indicates that strenuouos activity of the regulatory systems responsible for adaptive reactions of the organism falls within the periods from March to May and from August to October.

The necessity of the choice of means and methods to facilitate optimal correction of individual reserves of the organism accounts for the importance of the search for the most efficient preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative modalities. One way to address this problem is to simulate prognosis of the outcomes of rehabilitative treatment. It is proposed to use a two-step method to achieve this goal.

Changes in liver structure in experimental CCl₄-induced hepatitis depend on the phase of the circumannual cycle. Pronounced disorders in the liver with a model of toxic hepatitis were observed in winter and fall and minor changes were recorded in summer. In spring, the liver was characterized by higher adaptation and compensatory potential, its structural status spontaneously returned to normal on day 4 after the last injection of CCl₄.

The objective of the study was to evaluate results of non-medicamental treatment of 167 children with obesity taking into account dynamics of annual rhythms of their clinical, hormonal, metabolic, and psychological characteristics. The period from August till November was shown to be especially favourable in terms of body weight loss, improvement of hormonal, metabolic, and psychic status. Analysis of these changes permitted to correct the proposed mode of combined therapy of obesity during the period from December till July.

Long-term monitoring natural health remedial factors of southern Siberia provided materials for the comparative evaluation of bioclimatic characteristics of sanatorium-and-spa facilities in major health and recreational areas of this region. The most promising localities for climatic balneotherapy, tourist and recreational activities have been identified at the territory of the Altai-Sayan mountain system. The database of sanatorium-and-spa facilities, health and recreational sites located in this region is presented.

This experiment was preformed on an animal model of CCl4 hepatitis using 320 Wistar rats. The animals underwent combined effect of saprogel and a magnetic field during different seasons. It was shown that non-medicamentous treatment of experimental CCl4 hepatitis had the most pronounced beneficial effect on the synthetic liver function in the winter time.

The study was designed to clarify seasonal patterns of endocrine and metabolic processes and their changes under extreme conditions in Special Police Force servicemen. Hormonal status, lipid spectra, activity of lipid peroxidation and nonspecific protection systems were assessed during transition seasons. It was shown that the stay in a local armed conflict zone had marked effect on the structure of adaptive reactions.

Rhythmic patterns in the functioning of different systems of the body should be taken into consideration when developing new therapeutic modalities intended for the improvement of efficiency of health care measures. The study of chronobiological features of the work of organ systems in patients with different diseases residing in mid-latitude regions provided a rationale for the differential approach to the prescription of medicinal preparations of natural origin in selected periods of the annual cycle.

The assessment of procedure tolerance, their efficiency at shortening of courses of dorsopathies physiotherapy to 12-14 days made possible to detect presence of unfavorable reactions to treatment in 32% of cases. Regulator of energy metabolism, included in the therapy, assists to good tolerance to shortened courses of dorsopathy rehabilitation (frequency of presence and expression degree of reaction to treatment reduced to 15%), stabilization of energy system in patients' organism, absence of hyper activation and stress of adaptive mechanisms, maintenance of compensatory abilities reserves.

To make the treatment of bile-excreting dysfunctions more effective still remains an actual problem of clinical medicine. Use of chronobiological approach in the treatment is possible to resolve that problem. For any system including bile-excreting one, its own biorhythms are typical.

Morphological examinations of the liver in chronic opisthorchiasis have both diagnostic and prognostic importance. Significant lowering of the number of cells of the portal tract inflammatory infiltrate per area unit (1 mmI), decreased number of neutrophilic and eosinophilic leukocytes, elevated count of monocytes are not only morphological markers of successful dehelminthization but they also reflect objective improvement of the liver state this being an absolute criterion of effective therapy.

In vitro experimental studies of the antiopisthorchiasis properties of currently available non-drug treatment are ofgreat practical value. The studies demonstrated that the herbal drug ecorsol and the background resonance radiation of the Opisthorchis spectrum exerted an anti-helminthic effect that was evaluated by the marital death and amounted to 83.6 to 96.

The study of endocrine-metabolic and immune status of combatants with different forms of chronic diseases but free of combat wounds gave grounds for working up a new approach to correction of poststress disorders. The above correction includes staged rehabilitation with a corrective basic complex at the first stage.

Investigations on 496 Wistar rats have revealed that in winter geomagnetic deviations (GMD) have no effect on hepatic function of the intact animals. GMD in spring and summer provoked functional impairment of the liver while in autumn intact and CCl4 hepatitis rats exhibited GMD-related normalization of liver function. Thus, efficacy of physiotherapeutic correction of the liver depends on the phase of the annual cycle and geomagnetic situation.

Experiments on 172 Wistar rats modeled CCl4 hepatitis in winter and summer. In winter, normalization of biochemical indices was slow while efficacy of physiotherapy with sapropel combined with magnetic field was high. In summer, normalization of biochemical indices was more active but the above combination was less effective.

A combined treatment is proposed for patients with chronic prostatitis attended by reflex syndromes of lumbar osteochondrosis. The treatment consists in postisometric relaxation, massage of the prostate and transrectal mobilization of the pelvic ligaments. The results achieved in 106 patients proved that the proposed combined treatment is effective in compound pathology of the pelvic region.
