Tibial Plateau Angle Changes following Repair of Salter-Harris Type 1 and 2 Fractures in Dogs.

Objective:  To determine (1) whether the tibial plateau angle (TPA) in dogs with Salter-Harris type 1 (SH-1) or type 2 (SH-2) fractures of the proximal tibial physis significantly decreases in the time between diagnosis and reevaluation following surgical repair and (2) whether the method of surgical repair influences the change in TPA over time.

Study Design:  This study was a retrospective study. Medical records from 2017 to 2022 were reviewed to identify dogs with SH-1 or SH-2 fractures of the proximal tibial physis that had undergone surgical repair with Kirschner wires (K-wires), with or without a tibial tuberosity tension band.

Stapled enterectomy reduces surgical time when compared with sutured enterectomy: a retrospective review of 54 cats.

Objectives: Feline enterectomy is commonly performed in referral and general veterinary practice; however, existing studies in the veterinary literature lack significant case numbers to guide clinical decision-making. In addition, no studies have evaluated the use of surgical staplers in cats for this procedure. Feline radial and ulnar diaphyseal fractures: a retrospective study of 49 cases comparing single bone fixation and dual bone fixation.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to report the complications in radial and ulnar diaphyseal fractures in cats and to compare the differences in outcome between single and dual bone internal fixation.

Methods: Medical records between 2004 and 2022 were searched retrospectively for cats with antebrachial diaphyseal fractures treated with internal bone-plate fixation. In total, 49 cases were included from six referral hospitals, including one teaching hospital.

Case Summary: A 12-year-old male neutered Bengal cat presented for a left thoracic limb lameness of several weeks' duration. Abnormal advanced imaging findings depicted the presence of an irregularly marginated osteolytic lesion in the proximal-mid diaphysis of the left humerus. A histopathological evaluation of the humerus confirmed a diagnosis of osteoblastic osteosarcoma.

Primary anastomosis of segmental external auditory canal atresia in one dog.

This report describes a case of canine segmental external auditory canal atresia (EACA). The dog was managed medically with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs until clinical deterioration, at which time a novel and successful end-to-end anastomosis surgical repair was performed. At the 30 day postoperative re-examination, the dog was clinically well and otoscopy confirmed that there was no evidence of auditory canal stenosis.

Septic peritonitis is a common, life-threatening condition encountered in dogs and cats. Efficacy of peritoneal lavage has not been proven in veterinary studies. Our objective was to evaluate differences in bacterial identity and susceptibility in samples obtained pre- and postlavage in animals who underwent laparotomy for treatment of septic peritonitis and to assess the effect of empirical antimicrobial selection on survival.

Assessment of the efficacy and potential complications of transjugular liver biopsy in canine cadavers.

Background: Transjugular liver biopsy (TJLB) is used in humans at risk of bleeding. There are no reports of its use in veterinary medicine.

Transformation of a thymic branchial cyst to a carcinoma with pulmonary metastasis in a dog.

A 9-year-old, female neutered Dalmatian was evaluated for acute onset of dyspnoea. Thoracocentesis on presentation yielded 1300 ml sanguineous fluid, while thoracic radiology and ultrasonography showed a mixed-echoic cavitary cranial mediastinal mass, sternal lymph node enlargement and pleural effusion. Surgical exploration of the thorax revealed a multi-lobulated red/brown cranial mediastinal mass and multiple similarly coloured ovoid nodules within several lung lobes.
