Chemsex Among Men Having Sex with Men: A Scoping Review on Management, Support, and Harm Reduction Strategies.

Chemsex defines the practice of sexual activity under the influence of psychoactive substances, mainly by Men who have Sex with Men (MSM). This activity can be associated with negative health consequences, yet there are no recommendations to guide management of individuals who engage in chemsex. The aim of this scoping review was to identify and describe the existing treatments (pharmacological or not) and risk/harm reduction strategies for MSM who engage in chemsex.

Darwin's small and medium ground finches might have taste preferences, but not for human foods.

Urbanization is rapidly changing ecological niches. On the inhabited Galapagos Islands, Darwin's finches consume human-introduced foods preferentially; however, it remains unclear why. Here, we presented pastry with flavour profiles typical of human foods (oily, salty and sweet) to small ground finches () and medium ground finches () to test if latent taste preferences might drive the selection of human foods.

[Gambling and Internet habits in a French population with addictive disorders seeking treatment: a multicentric study].

Background: Transversal grouping of addictions under the heading "Substance related and addictive disorders" in the DSM-5 has led to a common policy on addictions and the promotion of addiction services covering all types of addictions, including behavioral addictions.

Material And Methods: The main objective of this study was to describe the prevalence of problem gambling in a population of patients seeking treatment in addictive disorders center. Secondary objectives were: to describe the use of Internet and the prevalence of gaming disorder, sexual addiction and compulsive buying online ; to describe a population of patients consulting in addictive disorders center; to explore associated factors related to problem gambling.

Alcohol use disorders, beverage preferences and the influence of alcohol marketing: a preliminary study.

Background: Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD) are among the most prevalent mental disorders in the world. They are the leading risk factor for premature mortality and disability among 15 to 49-year-olds. Links between alcohol marketing and patterns of alcohol consumption are well defined in adolescents but there is few data on the impact of alcohol marketing on a population of drinkers with an AUD and seeking treatment.

Methane transport in agricultural soil after injection of isotopically-enriched methane in the sub-surface.

Small quantities of radioactive methane (CH) may be released over prolonged periods from geological disposal facilities for radioactive waste. The impact of this release depends on the capacity of soil to oxidise CH to CO during transport from the sub-surface to the atmosphere. We investigated this capacity by pulse-injecting isotopically-enriched methane 50 cm below the surface of an agricultural soil in central England.

Background and aims Research on sexual addiction flourished during the last decade, promoted by the development of an increased number of online sexual activities. Despite the accumulation of studies, however, evidence collected in clinical samples of treatment-seeking people remains scarce. The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics (socio-demographics, sexual habits, and comorbidities) of self-identified "sexual addicts.

Quantifying (12/13)CH(4) migration and fate following sub-surface release to an agricultural soil.

Following gas generation in a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF), (14)C-containing gases could migrate through the geosphere, eventually diffusing into soils at the Earth's surface. This paper reports summary results from laboratory and field experiments to obtain information on the probable rates of a) diffusive transport and b) oxidation of (12/13)CH(4) (as a surrogate for (14)CH4) in a typical agricultural soil in the UK. Rates of CH(4) oxidation were generally low in the field and undisturbed soil columns, though a re-packed column of homogenised topsoil oxidised ambient atmospheric CH(4) 20× faster than an undisturbed soil column.

A novel host factor for integration of mycobacteriophage L5.

Bacterial integration host factors (IHFs) play central roles in the cellular processes of recombination, DNA replication, transcription, and bacterial pathogenesis. We describe here a novel mycobacterial IHF (mIHF) of Mycobacterium smegmatis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis that stimulates integration of mycobacteriophage L5. mIHF is the product of a single gene and is unrelated at the sequence level to other integration host factors.

Quantitation of prenylcysteines by a selective cleavage reaction.

The allylic thioether bond of the prenylcysteines of prenylated proteins has been shown to be cleaved by 2-naphthol under alkaline conditions to yield substituted naphthopyrans. These products are readily resolved from interfering materials by HPLC and have a strongly absorbing chromophore. Thus, this reaction is suitable for quantitative analysis of prenyl substituents of proteins, and we have examined a number of tissues for their content of prenylcysteines.

Prenylated proteins: synthesis of geranylgeranylcysteine and identification of this thioether amino acid as a component of proteins in CHO cells.

Prenylated proteins, labeled in the isoprenoid residue by growing CHO cells in medium containing [5-3H]mevalonate, were degraded by three different proteolytic procedures, enzymatic or alkaline hydrolysis as well as hydrazinolysis. The products thus obtained were analyzed by HPLC with chemically prepared all-trans-geranylgeranylcysteine as a standard. About 10% of the radioactive products released by each lytic procedure showed the same chromatographic properties as geranylgeranylcysteine.
