Search for supersymmetry using final states with one lepton, jets, and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector in √s=7 TeV pp collisions.

This Letter presents the first search for supersymmetry in final states containing one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum from √s=7  TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35  pb(-1). No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed.

Methods: Replicas of the crow's feet area of volunteers were recorded in 1987 and 2008 and observed comparatively. Characteristic features were quantified by image analysis.

Aims: The authors analyzed the outcome of patients with Isolated Skin Recurrence After Salvage Mastectomy (ISRASM) performed after conservative treatment for breast carcinoma, taking into account initial tumor characteristics, intramammary recurrence (first recurrence) characteristics, local skin recurrence (second recurrence) characteristics, and the type of treatment at each stage of the breast cancer continuum.

Methods: Forty-two patients who had ISRASM between 1976 and 2007 were included in this retrospective study. Twenty-six factors were studied in univariate and multivariate analyses.

Regression of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia with TG4001 targeted immunotherapy.

Objective: We sought to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TG4001 in patients with human papillomavirus (HPV) 16-related cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 2/3 at 6 and 12 months.

Study Design: In all, 21 patients with HPV 16-related CIN 2/3 received 3 weekly subcutaneous injections of TG4001. Regression of the CIN 2/3 lesion and the clearance of HPV 16 infection were monitored by cytology, colposcopy, and HPV DNA/messenger RNA (mRNA) detection.

Observation of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry in lead-lead collisions at sqrt[S(NN)] =2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC.

By using the ATLAS detector, observations have been made of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry in the collisions of lead ions at the Large Hadron Collider. In a sample of lead-lead events with a per-nucleon center of mass energy of 2.76 TeV, selected with a minimum bias trigger, jets are reconstructed in fine-grained, longitudinally segmented electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters.

Search for new particles in two-jet final states in 7 TeV proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC.

A search for new heavy particles manifested as resonances in two-jet final states is presented. The data were produced in 7 TeV proton-proton collisions by the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 315  nb⁻¹ collected by the ATLAS detector. No resonances were observed.

Secondary sonochemical effect on Mo-catalyzed bromination of aromatic compounds.

The Molybdate-catalyzed bromination of various aromatic compounds in the presence of KBr/H(2)O(2) in an aqueous/chloroform biphasic system occurred under ultrasonic irradiation, whereas the reaction did not take place under conventional mechanical stirring (1400 rpm). The sonochemical activation was found to be of secondary effect, attributed to lowering pH by sonolysis of CHCl(3)-H(2)O solvents mixture.

Reusable task-specific ionic liquids for a clean ε-caprolactam synthesis under mild conditions.

Brønsted-acidic ionic liquids that bear a sulfonic acid group, known as Forbes acids, show a good catalytic activity for the Beckmann rearrangement, used to prepare ε-caprolactam, which is a precursor of Nylon 6. The activity essentially stems from the acidity of the sulfonic acid group. Although these task specific ionic liquids suffer from a high viscosity, this drawback can be circumvented at higher temperatures.

The aim of this study was to determine the underestimation rate of pure FEA on CNB and clinical, radiological, and pathological factors of underestimation. 4,062 CNBs from 5 breast cancer centers, performed over a 5-year period, were evaluated.

Intraoperative touch imprint cytology of axillary sentinel nodes for breast cancer: a series of 355 procedures.

Aims: Our objective was to evaluate intraoperative sentinel node touch imprint cytology (IOSNTI) for breast cancer. Three hundred and fifty-five patients with invasive breast cancer (pT1N0, lobular or ductal subtype) were included in our study. IOSNTI consists of touching glass slides to the surfaces of interest after gently pressing the spatially localized specimen, taken according to predetermined conditions, in order to perform a final histological examination consisting of H&E and immunohistochemical staining.

[MRI evaluation of residual breast carcinoma after neoadjuvant chemotherapy].

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the sensibility and specificity of MRI in the detection and size measuring of residual breast cancer in patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery.

Patients And Methods: This is a retrospective study of 32 women, who underwent breast MRI before and after neoadjuvant treatment. MRI has been confronted to surgical pathology results.

In situ dynamics of microbial communities during decomposition of wheat, rape, and alfalfa residues.

Microbial communities are of major importance in the decomposition of soil organic matter. However, the identities and dynamics of the populations involved are still poorly documented. We investigated, in an 11-month field experiment, how the initial biochemical quality of crop residues could lead to specific decomposition patterns, linking biochemical changes undergone by the crop residues to the respiration, biomass, and genetic structure of the soil microbial communities.

Objective: Capacitance imaging is a new technique using sensors based on silicon technology developed to record fingerprints for security reasons. Applying such a sensor onto the skin surface gives the capacitance (hydration) map of the skin surface with a two-dimensional resolution of 50 microm. This method was used to characterize skin of the chests of 64 women with various grades of skin photoaging.

The aim of this study was to test three different rotation sequences (YXY, ZXY, and XZY) on the shoulder kinematics (rotations of the humerus relative to the thorax) during an original movement such as the tennis flat serve (FS). Nine elite male and female players performed a minimum of five flat serves. An optoelectronic motion analysis system was used to record the movements.

Swift and efficient synthesis of 4-phenylquinazolines: involvement of N-heterocyclic carbene in the key cyclization step.

An original route to 2-alkyamino-4-phenylquinazolines in three steps from simple (hetero)aromatic amines is reported here. The key step involves the intramolecular cyclization of benzoyl arylguanidines performed in [OMIm]Cl ionic liquid. The basic (hetero)aromatic guanidines deprotonate the imidazolium-based ionic liquid, thus triggering the cascade process ultimately leading to the intramolecular cyclization.

Guidelines for the management of ovarian cancer during pregnancy.

Adnexal masses may be detected during prenatal ultrasound, and ovarian cancer may be suspected during pregnancy. Even though such masses are rarely malignant (1/10,000 to 1/50,000 pregnancies), the possibility of borderline tumour or cancer must be considered. It is a common assumption by both patients and physicians that if an ovarian cancer is diagnosed during pregnancy, treatment necessitates sacrificing the well-being of the fetus.
