While rare, life-threatening dermatoses encompass various inflammatory, infectious, vasculitic/vasculopathy, paraneoplastic, and neoplastic skin diseases. Complications include skin barrier dysfunction, secondary infection, and internal organ involvement. Skin signs may serve as a critical window into systemic disease.

Objectives: The US Cutaneous Oncodermatology Management (USCOM) multidisciplinary-guided algorithm for preventing and managing cutaneous targeted therapy-related adverse events provides practical recommendations for cancer patients and survivors.
Objectives: There is little understanding of the circumstances behind fatal pediatric opioid poisonings. Our objective was to characterize opioid fatalities according to child, family, and household factors.
Methods: We used data from the National Fatality Review-Case Reporting System to describe the circumstances behind the deaths of children 0 to 17 years of age who died of an opioid poisoning (ie, prescription opioid, heroin, illicit fentanyl) between 2004 and 2020.
Background/objectives: Intimate partner violence (IPV) and child physical abuse frequently co-occur, yet IPV-exposed children are not routinely evaluated for abuse. Furthermore, IPV survivors often seek care for their children but not for themselves, making pediatric visits an opportunity to address IPV. We developed a trauma- and violence-informed care (TVIC)-based model that 1) evaluated IPV-exposed children and 2) linked survivor-caregivers to an IPV advocate.

However, compared to spontaneous labor, medical induction is resource intensive, has increased obstetric risks, and is associated with less successful breastfeeding. In contrast to the endogenous oxytocin hormone, which is released in a pulsatile fashion in the brain, synthetic oxytocin is continuously infused intravenously, resulting in important limitations related to efficacy, safety, and cost.

A Community Advisory Board (CAB) was formed to (a) optimize a program to evaluate IPV-exposed children for abusive injuries and (b) inform research methods to engage IPV victims and their children. The objectives of this study were to implement and to evaluate the family violence CAB.

ICI-induced psoriasis commonly presents in patients with a history of psoriasis but may occur de novo, and it has a significant physical and psychosocial impact. ICI-induced and non-ICI-induced psoriasis are likely mediated by similar cytokines, and similar treatments are employed.

Methods: All patients with available DNA samples (N=32) who participated in a phase 2 clinical trial (NCT00498160) where they received an HLA mismatched co-transplantation of living donor kidney and facilitating cell-enriched HSCT were included in this study. High-resolution HLA genotyping data were used to calculate HLA amino acid mismatches (AAMM), Eplet MM, three-dimensional electrostatic mismatch scores (EMS-3D), PIRCHE scores, HLA-DPB1 T-cell epitope group MM, HLA-B leader sequence MM, and KIR ligands MM between the donor and recipient in both directions.
With an increasing number of patients eligible for immune checkpoint inhibitors, the incidence of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) is on the rise. Dermatologic immune-related adverse events (D-irAEs) are the most common and earliest to manifest, often with important downstream consequences for the patient. Current guidelines lack clarity in terms of diagnostic criteria for D-irAEs.

Methods: To analyze the fate of infused DHSCs in patients, we developed an culture system utilizing CD34DHSCs stimulated with irradiated allogeneic cells in cytokine supplemented medium long-term.
Results: Flow cytometric analyses revealed loss of the CD34 marker and an increase in CD33 myeloid and CD3 T-cell proportion by 10.
Dermatologic adverse events resulting from oncologic therapy are common and negatively impact patients' quality of life. Dermatologic adverse events include toxicity of the skin, oral mucosa, nails, and hair and are seen with cytotoxic chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy, with distinct patterns of dermatologic adverse events by drug class. Here, we review the literature on the impact of dermatologic adverse events on quality of life.

We report here on a method to coat a biodegradable matrix of biomimetic nanofibers on single cells that could have specific functions ranging from cell signaling to targeting and helping cells survive when used for therapies. The fibers are composed of peptide amphiphile (PA) molecules that self-assemble into supramolecular nanoscale filaments.

Cutaneous immune related adverse events (cirAEs) from ICIs are common and include pruritus as well as maculopapular, eczematous, bullous, lichenoid, and psoriasiform reactions. All clinicians interfacing with cancer patients must expedite proper evaluation and diagnosis, treatment, and/or consultation that supports the need for evidence-directed guidelines.

There are many suspected clinical complications of xylazine use, including unusual skin wounds, atypical overdose presentations, and possible dependence and withdrawal syndromes. However, there are few reports of cutaneous manifestations of xylazine in patients who inject drugs that can guide diagnosis and management in patients with confirmed xylazine toxicology.
