Evaluation of the Educational Quality of Endonasal Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy Videos on YouTube with IVORY and LAP-VEGaS Guidelines.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the educational quality of endonasal endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (EE-DCR) videos on YouTube with Instructional Videos in Otorhinolaryngology by YO-IFOS (IVORY) and LAParoscopic surgery Video Educational GuidelineS (LAP-VEGaS) guidelines and to evaluate the correlation of the 2 guidelines. EE-DCR videos were queried using search terms on YouTube. Views, likes, likes/dislikes ratio, age, and length of videos were noted.

Changes in paranasal sinus volumes, temporal bone pneumatization, internal acoustic canal and olfactory cleft dimensions over the centuries: a comparison of skulls from different epochs in Anatolia.

Objectives: Investigating changes in temporal bone pneumatization (TBP) and paranasal sinus volumes (PSV) across different eras may help understanding not only changes in skull anatomy but also pathophysiology of chronic otitis media and sinusitis, respectively, which are common health problems.

Methods: Eight skulls from the second century AD, 20 skulls were from the 10th-11th centuries AD, 20 skulls from the 16th-19th centuries AD, and 60 contemporary skulls were included in this cross-sectional observational study. Using computerized tomography (CT) scans, the PSV were calculated by multiplying the height, width, and antero-posterior distance of the sinuses.

Survival Outcomes of Non-squamous Cell Carcinoma and Rare Squamous Cell Carcinoma Variants of the Larynx.

Unlabelled: The literature focuses primarily on laryngeal differentiated squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and only a limited number of studies have evaluated the outcomes of rare variants of SCC (vSCC) and non-SCC malignancies (nSCC). To our knowledge, this is the first study to compare the survival outcomes of these two groups. We retrospectively reviewed the records of 816 patients who underwent laryngeal surgery from January 2010 to November 2022.

The Elderly Voice: Mechanisms, Disorders and Treatment Methods.

The elderly population is increasing globally. In Turkey, the population aged 65+ is predicted to grow to more than 15% of the whole population by 2050. Just like the rest of the body, the voice also changes with age.

Effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on surgery for indeterminate thyroid nodules (THYCOVID): a retrospective, international, multicentre, cross-sectional study.

Background: Since its outbreak in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has diverted resources from non-urgent and elective procedures, leading to diagnosis and treatment delays, with an increased number of neoplasms at advanced stages worldwide. The aims of this study were to quantify the reduction in surgical activity for indeterminate thyroid nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic; and to evaluate whether delays in surgery led to an increased occurrence of aggressive tumours.

Methods: In this retrospective, international, cross-sectional study, centres were invited to participate in June 22, 2022; each centre joining the study was asked to provide data from medical records on all surgical thyroidectomies consecutively performed from Jan 1, 2019, to Dec 31, 2021.

Purely Endonasal Endoscopic Approaches for Extracranial Trigeminal Nerve Schwannoma.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness and safety of purely endonasal endoscopic resection of extracranial trigeminal schwannomas (TGSs), with assessment of surgical and clinical outcomes in order to identify optimal candidates for an endonasal endoscopic approach (EEA).

Methods: A retrospective review of patient's records operated for TGSs between 2008 and 2021 was conducted. Patients operated with a purely EEA were included in this study.

Management of a Spontaneous Thyroid Nodule Hemorrhage Causing Acute Airway Obstruction.

Spontaneous intrathyroidal hemorrhage (ITH) causing airway obstruction is relatively rare. We report a case with no known history of a thyroid disease that presented with an ITH causing severe airway obstruction as a life-threatening situation. A 57-year-old female patient presented to the emergency department with sudden onset of swelling of the anterior neck, severe dyspnea, and unconsciousness.

Meta-analysis of hearing outcomes of chronic otitis media surgery in the only hearing ear.

Objective: To assess the hearing outcomes of surgery for patients with chronic otitis media (COM) with or without cholesteatoma in case of the only hearing ear (OHE).

Methods: This meta-analysis included COM patients with hearing in only one ear. The PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were reviewed.

Can Multi-Dimensional Voice Program (MDVP) Be Used as A Diagnostic Tool for Precocious Puberty?

Objectives: Voice is the one of the sexual maturation characteristics that differs between boys and girls. Voice analysis is a non-invasive diagnostic tool and well-tolerated by children. Our aim is to investigate the capability of MDVP to predict precocious puberty (PP).

Incidentally Found Killian-Jamieson Diverticulum During Thyroidectomy: A Case Report.

The aim of this case study is to demonstrate the very rare coincidental existence and management of a Killian-Jamieson diverticulum (KJD) during thyroid surgery. A 57-year-old woman was referred to our clinic with a malignant thyroid nodule and the complaint of a sore throat. There were no suspicions concerning a diverticulum on examining her with flexible laryngoscopy or ultrasound imaging.

Aflibercept-related nasal septum perforation.

Hypertension, cytopenia and diarrhea are the most common side effects of aflibercept. Rarely thromboembolism, hemorrhage, fistulization and reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy have been reported. Here we report a patient experiencing nasal septum perforation during aflibercept therapy.
