We describe a translational drug discovery platform based on organotypic culture of murine cortical brain slices that recapitulate disease-relevant neuroinflammatory biology. After an acute injury response, the brain slices assume a chronic neuroinflammatory state marked by transcriptomic profiles indicative of activation of microglia and astrocytes and loss of neuronal function.

The United States' crisis of overdose and drug-related harm and its system of policing and punishment are historically and empirically linked phenomena. The abandonment of people whose use of drugs leads to their premature death, in the form of an overdose, is directly and indirectly connected to wider systems of criminalization and incarceration that also produce premature suffering and death.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published a guideline in 2021 that highlighted the seriousness of the condition, but also recommended that graded exercise therapy (GET) should not be used and cognitive-behavioural therapy should only be used to manage symptoms and reduce distress, not to aid recovery. View Article and Find Full Text PDFStudy Objectives: This review synthesizes the pediatric behavioral sleep intervention (BSI) evidence base, summarizes challenges in translating BSIs from research to practice, and provides recommendations for integrating implementation science methods to advance pediatric BSI research.
Methods: We briefly review the common behavioral sleep disturbances among youth, discuss the pediatric BSIs with well-established evidence, and identify gaps in pediatric BSI research. We then identify contributors to the dearth of research evaluating pediatric BSIs in accessible settings and present a model for applying implementation science strategies to address identified gaps across the continuum of translational research.

In this work, we propose a new type of periodic dielectric waveguide that provides strong interactions between atoms and guided photons with an unusual dispersion. We design an asymmetric comb waveguide that supports a slow mode with a quartic (instead of quadratic) dispersion and an electric field that extends far into the air cladding for an optimal interaction with atoms.
