The studies made showed that one-tenth patient with purulent meningoencephalitis (PME) needs to be examined by axial computerized tomography (ACT) techniques. The following items are indications for ACT: apparent or progressive neurological symptomatology, protracted or relapsing course of PME, formation of the intracranial liquor hypertension, apparent changes in echoencephalography, and congestive disorders in the eyegrounds. Brain ACT permits finding a relevant policy of treating patients (surgery or conservative option) together with predicting the course and outcome of PME.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFor suspicion of pancreatic cancer 84 patients were subjected to ultrasonic examination, computerized tomography, x-ray of the stomach and duodenum and as indicated endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography combined with external cholangiostomy. The semeiotics of cancer of the pancreas was evaluated on the basis of radiation methods. Practical recommendations on the diagnosis and scope of surgical treatment as assessed preoperatively are given.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFComputed tomography (CT) of the chest organs was used in a comprehensive examination of 19 children and adolescents with spherical and cavitary formations in their lungs and mediastinum. Comparative analysis of the results obtained by means of routine X-ray examination and CT of the chest organs of the children and adolescents with spherical and cavitary formations in their lungs revealed that CT greatly improved their differential diagnosis. CT provides valuable additional data and is an optimum X-ray method for differential diagnosis of spherical and cavitary formations in children and adolescents.
