Transcranial and Transcutaneous Stimulation for Pain: What Have We Learned From the COVID-19 Pandemic Shutdown?

Background: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcutaneous magnetic stimulation (tMS) offer a novel noninvasive treatment option for chronic pain. While the recent COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus resulted in a temporary interruption of the treatments for patients, it provided an excellent opportunity to assess the long-term sustainability of the treatment, and the feasibility of resuming the treatments after a brief period of interruption as no such data are available in current literature.

Methods: First, a list of patients whose pain/headache conditions have been stably controlled with either treatment for at least 6 months prior to the 3-month pandemic-related shutdown was generated.

A systematic review of quality and consistency of clinical practice guidelines on the primary prevention of food allergy and atopic dermatitis.

Background And Aims: With an increasing number of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) addressing primary prevention of food allergy and atopic dermatitis, it is timely to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the quality and consistency of recommendations and evaluation of their implementability in different geographical settings.

Methods: We systematically reviewed CPGs from 8 international databases and extensive website searches. Seven reviewers screened records in any language and then used the AGREE II and AGREE REX instruments to critically appraise CPGs published between January 2011 and April 2022.

Background: Interprofessional education (IPE) has been promoted as a breakthrough in healthcare because of the impact when professionals work as a team. Feasibility and acceptability of a culturally-adapted Women's Wellness After Cancer Programme for Chinese women treated for gynaecological cancer: A pilot randomised controlled trial.

Objective: To assess the feasibility and acceptability of a culturally-adapted Women's Wellness After Cancer Programme (WWACPHK) for improving health-related quality of life, anxiety and depressive symptoms and enhancing self-efficacy in engaging in healthy lifestyles among Chinese women treated for gynaecological cancer.

Methods: This pilot randomised controlled trial was conducted from May to December 2018. Twenty-six women aged 18 or above who had completed treatment for gynaecological cancer were recruited from a gynaecology outpatient clinic of a public hospital in Hong Kong.

Unnecessary Early Gastrostomy for Trauma Patients.

While early gastrostomy tube placement (GTP) may decrease hospital length of stay and facilitate disposition, GTP may be unnecessary as some patients regain the ability to eat earlier than expected. No guidelines currently exist regarding optimal GTP timing or minimum duration of need indicating appropriateness of GTP. This retrospective (9/2017-12/2019) single center study evaluated the incidence of adequate (>75%) oral caloric intake (ACI) after GTP during index hospitalization and associated characteristics before discharge.

Background: Epidemiological studies have demonstrated a wide, unexplained disparity in the prevalence of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) subtypes depending on geographical location, ethnicity and other factors. Enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA) is more prevalent in Southeast Asia. Axial involvement in ERA patients is increasingly recognised to occur early in the disease course.

Poly(ADP-ribose) (PAR) is a homopolymer of adenosine diphosphate ribose that is added to proteins as a posttranslational modification to regulate numerous cellular processes. PAR also serves as a scaffold for protein binding in macromolecular complexes, including biomolecular condensates. It remains unclear how PAR achieves specific molecular recognition.

The impact of updated clinical blood pressure guidelines on hypertension prevalence among children and adolescents.

Background: To date, population estimates of hypertension prevalence among children and adolescents in Canada have been based on clinical guidelines in the National High Blood Pressure Education Program's 2004 Fourth Report on the Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents (NHBPEP 2004). In 2017, the American Academy of Pediatrics published updated guidelines in Clinical Practice Guideline for Screening and Management of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents (AAP 2017), followed by Hypertension Canada in 2020 with its publication of Comprehensive Guidelines for the Prevention, Diagnosis, Risk Assessment, and Treatment of Hypertension in Adults and Children (HC 2020). This study compares national child and adolescent hypertension prevalence estimates based on NHBPEP 2004, AAP 2017 and HC 2020.

JBrowse 2: a modular genome browser with views of synteny and structural variation.

We present JBrowse 2, a general-purpose genome annotation browser offering enhanced visualization of complex structural variation and evolutionary relationships. It retains core features of JBrowse while adding new views for synteny, dotplots, breakpoints, gene fusions, and whole-genome overviews. It allows users to share sessions, open multiple genomes, and navigate between views.

Highly sensitive noninvasive early lung cancer detection using DNA methylation topology in sputum-derived epithelial cells.

Objective: Sputum is a source of exfoliated respiratory epithelial cells transformed early in lung carcinogenesis. Malignant cells are hypomethylated and contain less genomic 5-methylcytosine (5mC). Validating a test that recognizes and quantifies aberrantly hypomethylated cells in sputum, we assessed its potential as a screening tool for detecting early-stage non-small cell lung cancer.

Over the past few years, the chiropractic profession has raised awareness of treatment benefits.

Rethinking protocolized completion angiography following extremity vascular trauma: A prospective observational multicenter trial.

Background: Completion angiography (CA) is commonly used following repair of extremity vascular injury and is recommended by the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma practice management guidelines for extremity trauma. However, it remains unclear which patients benefit from CA because only level 3 evidence exists.

Methods: This prospective observational multicenter (18LI, 2LII) analysis included patients 15 years or older with extremity vascular injuries requiring operative management.

Differential patterns of fish sensitization in Asian populations: Implication for precision diagnosis.

Background: The current diagnostics of fish allergy lack sufficient accuracy such that more reliable tests such as component-resolved diagnosis (CRD) are urgently needed. This study aimed at identifying fish allergens of salmon and grass carp and evaluating the sensitization pattern in fish allergic subjects from two distinct populations in Asia.

Methods: One hundred and three fish allergic subjects were recruited from Hong Kong (67 subjects) and Japan (46 subjects).
