Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how early-peak rainfall affects hydrological responses in vegetated soils, specifically focusing on dwarf mondo grass in sponge cities.
  • It introduces a new method for accurately measuring the wetting front (WF) and finds that early-peak rainfalls lead to faster ponding and overflow compared to uniform rainfalls.
  • The presence of vegetation delays ponding and decreases total overflow drainage by improving soil infiltration, while root density impacts water retention and soil structure at different depths.

Background: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcutaneous magnetic stimulation (tMS) offer a novel noninvasive treatment option for chronic pain. While the recent COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus resulted in a temporary interruption of the treatments for patients, it provided an excellent opportunity to assess the long-term sustainability of the treatment, and the feasibility of resuming the treatments after a brief period of interruption as no such data are available in current literature.

Methods: First, a list of patients whose pain/headache conditions have been stably controlled with either treatment for at least 6 months prior to the 3-month pandemic-related shutdown was generated.

While early gastrostomy tube placement (GTP) may decrease hospital length of stay and facilitate disposition, GTP may be unnecessary as some patients regain the ability to eat earlier than expected. No guidelines currently exist regarding optimal GTP timing or minimum duration of need indicating appropriateness of GTP. This retrospective (9/2017-12/2019) single center study evaluated the incidence of adequate (>75%) oral caloric intake (ACI) after GTP during index hospitalization and associated characteristics before discharge.
