Purtscher-like retinopathy - A rare complication of acute myocardial infarction and a review of the literature.

Purtscher-like retinopathy is an uncommon condition with features similar to Purtscher retinopathy but have non-traumatic causes. Several pathogenic mechanisms have been put forth with differing views on treatment options. We describe for the first time, a case of Purtscher-like retinopathy which developed following a myocardial infarct and a transient ischemic attack.

Treatment outcome in patients with presumed tubercular uveitis at a tertiary referral eye care centre in Singapore.

Aim: To report the clinical features and outcome of patients with presumed tubercular uveitis (TBU).

Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients with presumed TBU at a tertiary referral eye care centre in Singapore between 2007 and 2012 was done. Main outcome measures were failure of complete resolution of uveitis or recurrence of inflammation.

Tuberculosis or sarcoidosis: Opposite ends of the same disease spectrum?

Tuberculosis and sarcoidosis are chronic systemic diseases that have similar pulmonary and extra-pulmonary manifestations. Multiple studies have found an epidemiological, molecular, and immunological link between the two. It has been suggested that mycobacterium tuberculosis could be a common pathophysiologic mechanism for tuberculosis and sarcoidosis, and that both clinical entities can trigger similar immunological response in patients.

Subconjunctival haemorrhage from bronchoscopy: A case report.

Flexible bronchoscopy has been available for almost five decades. It has evolved as one of the most commonly used invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in pulmonology, and its scope of applications is progressively expanding with the addition of new adjunct technologies such as endobronchial ultrasound, bronchial Thermoplasty, and navigational bronchoscopy. It is a safe procedure with complications ranging from fever, infiltrates, hypoxemia, bleeding, pneumothoraces and death, with most significant complications being bleeding and pneumothorax.

Ophthalmia due to spitting cobra venom in an urban setting--a report of three cases.

To describe three presentations of spitting cobra venom induced ophthalmia in urban Singapore. Case notes and photographs of three patients with venom ophthalmia who presented to our clinic between 2007 and 2012 were reviewed. Two patients encountered the spitting cobra while working at a job site while the third patient had caught the snake and caged it.

Cultivated human conjunctival epithelial transplantation for total limbal stem cell deficiency.

Purpose: To determine the feasibility of cultivated conjunctiva as a viable epithelial sheet for transplantation and corneal resurfacing in eyes with limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD).

Methods: Human corneal epithelial (HCE) and human conjunctival epithelial (HCjE) cells were cultivated on human amniotic membrane (AM) to confluence and then air lifted to allow further stratification and differentiation. Denuded AM and cultivated HCE and cultivated HCjE cells were then transplanted into 18 eyes of rabbits with induced LSCD.

Current understanding of the treatment and outcome of acute primary angle-closure glaucoma: an Asian perspective.

Introduction: Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) is a major cause of blindness among Asians. A better understanding of the disease will improve the treatment and outcome of this condition.

Methods: A literature review of all recent publications on PACG was carried out.
