Background: Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality amongst all gynaecological malignancies, with around two-thirds of patients diagnosed with advanced disease due to late presentation. Furthermore, around 90% of patients develop recurrence and eventually become chemoresistant. Therefore, there is a high demand to identify biomarkers specific to this disease for screening for early detection, as well as new therapeutic targets.

Objectives: Hyperglycemia is associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes, such as heart failure, coronary heart disease, stroke, and in-hospital mortality. For those receiving cardiac surgery, up to half develop hyperglycemia while 30% have a diagnosis of diabetes, which is defined by chronic hyperglycemia. Due to a prothrombic state and endovascular damage, patients with diabetes have a twofold increased risk of cardiovascular events.
