The WSACS conducted an international survey between 2022 and 2023 to seek the agreement of healthcare practitioners (HCPs) worldwide on current and new candidate statements that may be used for future guidelines.
Methods: A self-administered, online cross-sectional survey was conducted under the auspices of the WSACS to assess the level of agreement among HCPs over current and new candidate statements.
Introduction: Studies exploring the relationship between peripheral arterial disease (PAD), critical limb ischemia (CLI), and chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its effect on in-hospital outcomes are limited. We aimed to analyze the outcomes of patients with CKD and PAD who are admitted for CLI.
Methods: We utilized the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) to capture hospitalizations for CLI from 2012 to 2020 and then identified cases with concomitant CKD.
Introduction: There is limited evidence as to the effect of sex on the outcomes of patients admitted for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who have a concomitant diagnosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). We aimed to determine if there are differences in the outcomes between males and females in these patient populations.
Methods: Data were obtained from the National Inpatient Sample database and patients were selected using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth and Tenth Revision (ICD-9 and -10) codes.
Key Points: No correlation was observed between pruritus severity and serum phosphate or response to placebo or difelikefalin in patients with CKD-associated pruritus undergoing hemodialysis. Difelikefalin improved itch versus placebo irrespective of baseline serum phosphate.

The primary outcome was mortality, and secondary outcomes were cerebrovascular accidents, major bleeding, vasopressor requirements, percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiac arrest, acute respiratory failure, transfusion, length of stay (LOS), and total hospital charges.

Lupus nephritis (LN), a severe complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), leads to significant kidney inflammation and damage and drastically increases mortality risk. Predominantly impacting women in their reproductive years, LN poses specific risks during pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia, growth restrictions, stillbirth, and preterm delivery, exacerbated by lupus activity, specific antibodies, and pre-existing conditions like hypertension. Methods: This was a post hoc, pooled exploratory subgroup analysis of the Phase 3 KALM-1 and -2 studies. Patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) who had moderate-to-severe chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) at enrollment were stratified into self-reported Black/AA or White subgroups.
Objective: Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) can have a substantial negative impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL), including an increased risk of depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance. This trial aimed to assess the impact of intravenous difelikefalin on HRQoL in haemodialysis patients with moderate-to-severe CKD-aP.
Methods: Post hoc analysis of an open-label, multicentre, single-arm intervention trial assessed pruritus severity and HRQoL at baseline and at 12 weeks of difelikefalin treatment using Worst Itching Intensity Numerical Rating Scale (WI-NRS), Sleep Quality Numeric Rating Scale (SQ-NRS), 5-D itch scale, Skindex-10 scale, EQ-5D-5L with Pruritus Bolt-On (EQ-PSO).
Secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) expression has been proposed as a prognostic and predictive biomarker for some cancer types, but knowledge about the predictive value of polymorphisms in the context of neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer (BC) is lacking. In 132 HER2-negative BC patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, we determined polymorphisms in the gene and analyzed their association with outcome.
