Percutaneous cystolithotomy for calculi in reconstructed bladders: initial UCLA experience.

Purpose: Laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy offers patients the benefits of decreased morbidity and improved cosmesis, while maintaining equivalent graft outcomes and complication rates similar to those of open donor surgery. With expressed concern for donor safety, using a standardized complication scale would allow combining data in a donor registry so potential donors could be adequately followed and counseled. We present the largest series to our knowledge of laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy by a single surgeon.

Numerical design of RN(n)(nu) symmetry-based RF pulse schemes for recoupling and decoupling of nuclear spin interactions at high MAS frequencies.

An approach for the efficient implementation of RN(n)(nu) symmetry-based pulse schemes that are often employed for recoupling and decoupling of nuclear spin interactions in biological solid state NMR investigations is demonstrated at high magic-angle spinning frequencies. The effects of family history and personal experiences of illness on the inclination to change health-related behaviour.

The aim of the present study was to examine how a personal experience of illness and a family history of cardiovascular disease (CVD), adjusted for sex, level of education and nationality, affect risk behaviour. Participants were 1,011 and 1,043, 50-year-old men and women from Sweden and Poland, respectively, who were recruited from a primary health care screening programme. Family history, personal experience of illness and risk behaviour (smoking and exercise habits, BMI level) were self-reported.

In this study, we have analysed the cellular density of the tumour/brain interface using three dimensional multi-photon microscopy intensity-images of experimental gliomas and human brain-tumour biopsy samples.

Transcription factor AP-2 beta genotype and psychosocial adversity in relation to adolescent depressive symptomatology.

The aim of this study was to investigate possible interactions between the gene coding for activating protein-2 beta (AP-2 beta) and psychosocial factors to predict depressive symptoms in adolescents. Two-hundred 16- and 19-year-old adolescents from the county of Västmanland, Sweden, were asked to complete a questionnaire, interviewed about psychosocial risk factors, and genotyped with regard to the transcription factor AP-2 beta intron 2 polymorphism. AP-2 beta genotype interacted significantly both with type of housing and parental separation to predict depressive symptoms.

Considering RF field strengths in the range of 100-120 kHz, as typically available in MAS probes employed at high spinning speeds, and limited B (1) field inhomogeneities, the Fourier coefficients defining the phase modulation profile of the RF pulses were optimised numerically to obtain broadband inversion and refocussing pulses and mixing sequences. Experimental measurements were carried out to assess the performance characteristics of the mixing sequences reported here.

Social status and shaming experiences related to adolescent overt aggression at school.

Feelings of rejection and humiliation in interpersonal interaction are strongly related to aggressive behavior. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between social status, shaming experiences, gender and adolescent aggressive behavior by using a status-shaming model. A population-based sample of 5,396 adolescents aged from 15 to 18 completed a questionnaire that asked questions regarding psychosocial background, shaming experiences, social status of family, peer group and school and involvement in physical or verbal aggression at school.

Inhibition of invasion-associated thromboxane synthase sensitizes experimental gliomas to gamma-radiation.

The invasion- and apoptosis-associated thromboxane synthase gene encoding an enzyme of the arachidonic acid pathway has been implicated in glioma progression. Furegrelate, a specific inhibitor of thromboxane synthase, blocks cell motility, induces apoptosis and increases sensitivity to drug induced apoptosis in human glioma cells in vitro. The impact of furegrelate on the sensitivity of human glioma cells to gamma-irradiation was analyzed using colony formation assay in vitro and an orthotopic mouse model in vivo.

Flexible ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy for multiple unilateral intrarenal stones.
