Does a relation between bone histomorphometry and fractures exist? The case of the equine radius and tibia.

Fractures of long bones in limbs are rare traumatic events in horses. This study investigates whether the incidence and types of fractures can be related to the histomorphometric features of the radius and tibia, which experience different biomechanical stresses and exhibit varying incidences and types of fractures. Clinical observations suggest that, in adults, slightly transverse and comminuted fractures are present in the radius, while the tibia shows a higher frequency of longitudinal and spiral fractures.

Brain aging in mammals is characterized by morphological and functional changes in neural cells. Macroscopically, this process, leading to progressive cerebral volume loss and functional decline, includes memory and motor neuron deficits, as well as behavioral disorders. Morphologically, brain aging is associated with aged neurons and astrocytes, appearing enlarged and flattened, and expressing enhanced pH-dependent β-galactosidase activity.

The design features include unique engineered disulfide bridges, knob-into-hole mutations, and kappa and lambda chains to produce Duet mAbs. These make it structurally and functionally complex, so one expects challenging developability linked to instability, degradation of products and pathways, and limited reports available.

Standard chromatography, capillary electrophoretic, or spectroscopic methods poorly resolve these from the main variants.

Purpose: Letters of recommendations (LORs) are key components of academic medicine applications. Given that bias against students and trainees underrepresented in medicine (UIM) has been demonstrated across assessment, achievement, and advancement domains, the authors reviewed studies on LORs to assess racial, ethnic, and UIM differences in LORs. Standardized LORs (SLORs), an increasingly common form of LORs, were also assessed for racial and ethnic differences.

When tiles decorated to lower their symmetry are joined together, they can form aperiodic and labyrinthine patterns. Such Truchet tilings offer an efficient mechanism of visual data storage related to that used in barcodes and QR codes. We show that the crystalline metal-organic framework [OZn][1,3-benzenedicarboxylate] (TRUMOF-1) is an atomic-scale realization of a complex three-dimensional Truchet tiling.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential saving deriving from the implementation in the prescription of the two currently available single-inhaler triple therapies (SITTs) versus the currently used multiple-inhaler triple therapies (MITTs) in an eligible COPD population residing in the Apulia Region.

Aims: Advanced hybrid closed-loop (AHCL) systems represent the latest introduction in the treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1DM). Randomized controlled trials and real-world evidence studies showed that AHCL systems are a safe and effective insulin management strategy. Aim of this retrospective, single-center, real-life study was to evaluate the effect on metabolic control, evaluated by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) metrics, of the switch from four available insulin strategies to an AHCL system in adult patients with type 1 diabetes.

Background: Dupilumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting the IL4/IL13 signaling pathway, already used for atopic dermatitis and chronic rhinitis with nasal polyps, recently approved for severe type-2 asthma. Its efficacy has been demonstrated in randomized control trials. The aim of our study is to evaluate possible early clinical improvement and type 2 biomarkers modifications in severe asthmatic patients treated with dupilumab in a real-life setting.

The MiniMed™ 780G system includes an advanced hybrid closed loop (AHCL) algorithm that provides both automated basal and correction bolus insulin delivery. The preliminary performance of the system in real-world settings was evaluated. Data uploaded from August 2020 to March 2021 by individuals living in Belgium, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Qatar, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom were aggregated and retrospectively analyzed to determine the mean glucose management indicator (GMI), percentage of time spent within (TIR), below (TBR), and above (TAR) glycemic ranges, system use, and insulin consumption in users having ≥10 days of sensor glucose (SG) data after initiating AHCL.

Birt-Hogg-Dubé (BHD) syndrome is a rare genetic pathology characterized by cutaneous fibrofolliculomas, pulmonary cysts and kidney tumours. Severe asthma is the most serious form of asthma that does not respond to standard treatments. We present the case of a 68 years-old male patient who had frequent respiratory tract infections, shortness of breath and decline in lung function, nasal polyposis and hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates, for this reason was treated as a severe asthmatic patient for several years with ICS + LABA and high doses of OCS.

A "Slide Rule" to Adjust Insulin Dose Using Trend Arrows in Adults with Type 1 Diabetes: Test in Silico and in Real Life.

Introduction: In persons with type 1 diabetes (T1D) insulin dosing can be adjusted based on trend arrows derived from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). We propose a slide rule with narrower blood glucose intervals and more classes of insulin sensitivity than are available in current models.

Methods: The slide rule was tested in silico, in which a meal was simulated in 100 virtual subjects and the insulin bolus was calculated either in the standard way based on the insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio and the correction factor or according to the slide rule, following which the percentage time spent in range (70-180 mg/dl; %T), hypoglycemia (< 70 mg/dl; %T), and hyperglycemia (> 180 mg/dl; %T) was compared between the methods during the 4 h after the meal.
