Prostate cancer heterogeneity: texture analysis score based on multiple magnetic resonance imaging sequences for detection, stratification and selection of lesions at time of biopsy.

Objective: To undertake an early proof-of-concept study on a novel, semi-automated texture-based scoring system in order to enhance the association between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) lesions and clinically significant prostate cancer (SPCa).

Patients And Methods: With ethics approval, 536 imaging volumes were generated from 20 consecutive patients who underwent multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) at time of biopsy. Volumes of interest (VOIs) included zonal anatomy segmentation and suspicious MRI lesions for cancer (Likert Scale score >2).

Embolization of peripheral high-flow arteriovenous malformations with Onyx.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to report our experience in embolization of high flow peripheral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) with Onyx.

Material And Methods: Nineteen patients (10 men, 9 women) with peripheral high-flow AVMs who were treated with arteruial embolization using Onyx were retrospectively included. AVMs were located in the head and neck (6), extremities (5), chest (2), kidney (2), uterus (2), pelvis (1) and parietal (1).

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt placement increases feasibility of colorectal surgery in cirrhotic patients with severe portal hypertension.

Background: Colorectal resection in cirrhotic patients is associated with high mortality and morbidity related to portal hypertension and liver insufficiency.

Methods: This retrospective study evaluated the clinical outcomes of cirrhotic patients who underwent transjugular intrahepatic porto-systemic shunt (TIPS) placement before colorectal resection for cancer. Main outcomes measures were postoperative morbidity and mortality rates.

Are pyogenic liver abscesses still a surgical concern? A Western experience.

Backgrounds. Pyogenic liver abscess is a rare disease whose management has shifted toward greater use of percutaneous drainage. Surgery still plays a role in treatment, but its indications are not clear.

Hepatocellular cancer in the non-cirrhotic liver.

Less than 20% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) develops in the non-cirrhotic liver (NCL). The diagnosis of HCC in NCL is suggested by a large hypervascular tumor in a 60-75 year old patient (usually male), particularly if the alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level is high. But AFP is normal more often than not.

[Mycotic aneurysm and renal transplant. A case report].

The arterial aneurysm secondary to Candida is a rare but frightening complication of renal transplant. We report the case of a 58-year-old patient who developed an arterial aneurysm secondary to a Candida infection in 3 weeks of a third renal transplant. Candida albicans was isolated from the preservation solution.

Leiomyosarcoma of the superior mesenteric vein: a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.

We report here a case of a very rare entity, a leiomyosarcoma of the mesentericoportal trunk, which was initially misdiagnosed as an unresectable pancreatic cancer invading the mesenteric vein, and which was finally treated by pancreatectomy with mesentericoportal reconstruction. The pitfalls of diagnosis and modalities of resection are discussed.

[Splenic cysts and tumors: diagnosis and management].

Cysts and tumors of the spleen are rare and are often discovered fortuitously. They are most often asymptomatic but may present with abdominal pain in the left upper quadrant. Splenic cysts are far more common than solid lesions; true cysts must be differentiated from pseudocysts of the pancreas and from cystic degeneration following splenic contusion or infarction.
