Healthy dietary patterns rich in legumes can improve metabolic health, although their additional benefits in conjunction with calorie restriction have not been well-established. We investigated effects of a calorie-restricted, legume-enriched, multicomponent intervention diet compared with a calorie-restricted control diet in 127 Chinese prediabetes participants, living in Singapore. The study was a 16-week, single-blind, parallel-design, randomized controlled trial (n = 63 intervention group (IG), n = 64 control group (CG); mean ± SD age 62.

This dataset comprises 10 activities carried out by 8 volunteers in three different indoor floor plan experiment setups. Line-of-sight (LOS) scenarios are represented by the first two experiment setups, and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios are simulated in the third experiment setup.

Background: Phenotypic age (PhenoAge), a widely used marker of biological aging, has been shown to be a robust predictor of all-cause mortality and morbidity in different populations. Existing studies on biological aging have primarily focused on individual domains, resulting in a lack of a comprehensive understanding of the multi-systemic dysregulation that occurs in aging.
Methods: PhenoAge was evaluated based on a linear combination of chronological age (CA) and 9 clinical biomarkers in 952 multi-ethnic Asian women of reproductive age.
In clinical endocrinology, it is often assumed that the results of thyroid hormone function tests (TFTs) before total thyroidectomy are considered euthyroid when the circulating concentrations of thyrotropin [TSH] and free thyroxine [FT4] are within the normal reference ranges. Postoperative thyroid replacement therapy with levothyroxine. The aim of L-T4 is to reproduce the preoperative euthyroid condition.

Climate change is increasing both seasonal temperatures and the frequency and severity of heat extremes. As the endocrine system facilitates physiological adaptations to temperature changes, diseases with an endocrinological basis have the potential to affect thermoregulation and increase the risk of heat injury. The effect of climate change and associated high temperature exposure on endocrine axis development and function, and on the prevalence and severity of diseases associated with hormone deficiency or excess, is unclear.

The study aims to develop and evaluate the feasibility of a low-cost drilling model to train surgeons in the drilling task. The model targets three aspects of drilling - (1) Reduce plunge depth, (2) Ability to differentiate between bone and medullary canal and (3) Increase accuracy drilling in various angles.

In this work, we develop a new propensity score-based method for heterogeneous treatment effect estimation when there are three or more treatment options, and prove that it generates unbiased estimates. We demonstrate our method on a real patient registry of patients in Singapore with diabetic dyslipidemia.

Surgical reconstruction can restore length and function, but cannot adequately resolve the problem of disfigurement. Prosthetic fitting can play a complementary role in enhancing the aesthetic outcomes post reconstruction. However, complex reconstruction involving flaps coupled with the surgical imperative for limb length preservation can lead to outcomes where the reconstructed stumps are challenging to fit with prosthesis.

This cohort will form the basis of larger interventional trials targeting metabolic inflexibility in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Participants aged 21-72 years with no prior manifest atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) are being recruited from a preventive cardiology clinic and an existing cohort of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in an academic medical centre.

A one-day workshop was organised and conducted in Singapore by SingHealth Polyclinics to discuss the challenges and enablers of good asthma care and ideate innovations to address the issues discussed. The workshop was conceptualised based on the Stanford’s d: school Design Thinking Process: 1.

Accurate separation and quantification of these sub-depots are crucial for advancing our understanding of obesity and its comorbidities. However, the absence of clear boundaries between the sub-depots in medical imaging data has challenged their separation, particularly for internal adipose tissue (IAT) sub-depots.

Primary hyperphosphatemic TC has been shown to be caused by pathogenic variants in the genes encoding FGF23, GALNT3, and KLOTHO. We report a case of massive TC mechanistically associated with phosphatonin resistance associated with heterozygous alterations in the sterile alfa motif domain-containing protein-9 gene (), alfa 2-Heremans-Schmid glycoprotein gene (), FSHD region gene 2-family member-C gene (), and fibroblast growth factor receptor-4 gene ().

The secondary outcomes included the prevalence of smartphone addiction, duration and purpose of its use, prevalence of poor sleep, duration and quality of sleep.
Methods: The authors searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, PsycINFO and CINAHL databases, from inception of each database to October 2022.
Published reports on the functional benefits of esthetic prosthesis are based on either anecdotal evidence or simplified, nonstandard forms of hand function evaluation performed by the researcher. It is not clear whether and how patients actually make functional use of their prosthesis on a daily basis. We report a case of a patient with a partial hand amputation who was initially ambivalent about fitting an esthetic prosthesis, but went on to make functional use of her prosthesis for activities of daily living, work, and social life at 3 years after injury.

Objectives: To compare QT with RF changes, and their association with physical function in critically ill children.
Pharmacological agents used to treat or manage diseases can modify the level of heat strain experienced by chronically ill and elderly patients via different mechanistic pathways. Human thermoregulation is a crucial homeostatic process that maintains body temperature within a narrow range during heat stress through dry (i.e.

Background: Color matching is a critically important part of, and by far, also the most challenging aspect of producing esthetic silicone prosthesis. There is a knowledge gap in the literature and a lack of opportunities for training in the expertise, particularly regarding color-matching techniques.
Objective: This article details a color-matching technique that is able to achieve life-like coloration in esthetic prosthesis.
Background: Since its outbreak in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has diverted resources from non-urgent and elective procedures, leading to diagnosis and treatment delays, with an increased number of neoplasms at advanced stages worldwide. The aims of this study were to quantify the reduction in surgical activity for indeterminate thyroid nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic; and to evaluate whether delays in surgery led to an increased occurrence of aggressive tumours.
Methods: In this retrospective, international, cross-sectional study, centres were invited to participate in June 22, 2022; each centre joining the study was asked to provide data from medical records on all surgical thyroidectomies consecutively performed from Jan 1, 2019, to Dec 31, 2021.
