Article Synopsis
  • Malnutrition is a serious public health issue in developing countries, particularly impacting children and increasing the risk of infections like oral candidiasis, with limited data on Candida presence in asymptomatic Mexican children.
  • A study of 743 preschool children in Mexico found varying nutritional statuses, with normal being the most common, while Candida spp. were isolated from 52 individuals, predominantly C. albicans.
  • Although there was no significant link between Candida colonization and nutritional status, a higher colonization rate was associated with increased intake of simple carbohydrates, especially among six-year-old boys.
