Objective: To evaluate whether antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) repairs bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ) modulated by the reduction of NF-kB protein in a murine model.
Methodology: Male Wistar rats (N=30) were divided into the following groups (n=6/group): negative control (NC); experimental osteonecrosis (ONE); ONE + photosensitizer (PS); ONE + photobiomodulation (PBM); and ONE + aPDT. Over 8 weeks, ONE was induced by zoledronic acid 250 µg/kg injections, except in the NC group, which received sterile 0.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of bonding protocols and the type of orthodontic resin on the adhesion of microorganisms, degree of conversion (DC), and shear bond strength (SBS) of metallic brackets to enamel.
Methods: A total of 60 bovine incisors were prepared and randomly divided into 6 groups (n = 10): "bonding protocol" (A: phosphoric acid; AXT: A+Transbond™ XT primer adhesive [all Transbond™ products from 3M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA]; and SE: Transbond™ Plus Self Etching Primer) and "orthodontic resin" (XT: Transbond™ XT adhesive paste and CC: Transbond™ Plus Color Change). After bonding, the samples were subjected to thermocycling (5000 cycles) and to the SBS test.

The glucose levels found in the blood of diabetic patients can be reflected in the saliva, which can favor biofilm growth and predispose denture wearers to oral candidiasis. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different salivary glucose concentrations on dual-species biofilms of and .

Background: This study aimed to investigate the influence of oral health on nutritional status, self-perception of oral health and health related quality of life of institutionalized elders.
Material And Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 193 institutionalized elders living in the metropolitan region of João Pessoa (Brazil). The independent variables included were: 1) caries experience (DMFT index and its components); 2) use and need of dental prostheses; and 3) type of edentulism.
Background: In oral candidiasis models, Candida albicans and Streptococcus salivarius sp. biofilms have an antagonistic relationship. Due to this, S.

Introduction: Institutionalized older adults have higher risks of diseases and worse health-related quality of life (HRQoL) than noninstitutionalized.
Objective: To evaluate the influence of physical state, nutritional status and self-perceived general health and oral health on the quality of life of institutionalized older adults in two Brazilian cities.
Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted in 17 homes for the aged of two Brazilian cities.

Background: Nursing home elders experience many problems that may influence their quality of life, in example of cognitive, mental, nutritional and physical disabilities. Concerning about elders' wellbeing may help them living with dignity. This study aimed to investigate factors associated with Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) of institutionalized elders in a capital city of Brazilian Northeast.

Objective: Restoring noncarious cervical lesions are challenging to clinical practice. This study aimed to compare the clinical performance/longevity of glass ionomer cements (GIC) and composite resins (CR) used for noncarious cervical lesions (NCCL) through a systematic review and meta-analysis (MA).
Data: Randomized and controlled clinical trials and nonrandomized clinical trials, which compared the clinical performance/longevity of CR and GIC (conventional and/or resin-modified) in the treatment of NCCL, were included.

This study evaluates the effects of resin infiltrant composition and caries histological zone on the hydrolytic degradation of resininfiltrated artificial bovine enamel caries (RI-AEC). Different resin infiltrants were tested (n=26 per group): Icon (G1); TEGDMA 60%, UDMA 20%, and HEMA 20% (TUH); TEGDMA 80% and HEMA 20% (TH); and TEGDMA 75% and Bis-EMA 25% (TB). Following caries infiltration, samples were cut perpendicularly, and transverse microhardness were analyzed (at two histological zones: surface layer and lesion body) before and after 21 days of water immersion.

Saturation of the tooth matrix with different substances may modulate this energy and, consequently, the wettability of the dentin.
Aim: To evaluate the influence of different substances used to saturate conditioned-dentin on surface free energy (SFE) of this substrate.
