Nontargeted and suspect screening with liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) has become an indispensable tool for quality assessment in the aquatic environment - complementary to targeted analysis of organic (micro)contaminants. An LC-HRMS method is presented, suitable for the analysis of a wide variety of water related matrices: surface water, groundwater, wastewater, sediment and sludge, including extracts from passive samplers and on-site solid phase enrichment, while focusing on the data processing aspect of the method. A field study is included to demonstrate the practical application and versatility of the whole process.

The possibilities of expanding a groundwater quality monitoring scheme by passive sampling using polar organic chemical integrative sampler (POCIS) comprising HLB sorbent as the receiving phase were explored. Passive sampling and grab sampling were carried out simultaneously in the regions with vulnerable groundwater resources in Slovakia, between 2013 and 2021. Synthesis of extracellular phytohormones by bacteria strains of the genus Bacillus isolated from different ecological sources (soil and plant) has been researched. It has been shown that phytohormone's synthesis ability of the endophytic and free-living Bacillus strains is significantly different as regards the level and spectrum of synthesized compounds. It was concluded that such differences in synthesis of extracellular phytohormones by bacilli are associated with different type of interactions between the studied microorganisms and host plant.

Phylloquinone (vitamin K1; 2-methyl-3-phytyl-1,4-naphthoquinone), the secondary electron acceptor A1 in photosystem I of plants, algae, and cyanobacteria, mediates the electron transfer between A0 (a monomeric chlorophyll a) and the iron-sulfur cluster Fx. In order to investigate the interaction of vitamin K1 with the A1-binding site, their models on the non-covalent complexes were obtained and studied. The fluorescent properties of vitamin K1, its derivatives, and their complexes with Trp showed a possible role of amino acid components in the formation of a stable energy state, which provides the energy redistribution between oxidized and reduced forms of vitamin K1.
