Micrometric measurement of the density of stained odontoblast processes.

Unlabelled: The embryological, structural and functional unit of the dentine-pulp complex shares the odontoblast, located in the border of the dentine pulp, with basal nuclei and organelles. The odontoblast process emerges from its apical pole. It is formed by microtubules, microfilaments and vesicles covered by membranes penetrating the dentinal tubules, isolated from the inter-tubular matrix, along the extent of the dentine.

Gallbladder carcinoma: intraoperative imprint cytology, a helpful and valuable screening procedure.

Background/purpose: A major problem arises when a tumor is not readily recognized at the time of cholecystectomy. A carcinoma at early stages or one hidden by acute or chronic inflammation can be overlooked during surgery, and the diagnosis would then be made only after microscopic examination of paraffin-embedded tissue. The purpose of the present report is to communicate the results of 10 years' experience with the use of imprint cytology for the intraoperative diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma.

Gallbladder cancer: surgical results after cholecystectomy in 25 patients with lamina propria invasion and 26 patients with muscular layer invasion.

Background/purpose: It has been stated that simple cholecystectomy is sufficient treatment for all patients with pT1 gallbladder cancer. However, other authors note the necessity of carrying out extended surgery when there is muscular-layer involvement.

Methods: A consecutive series of gallbladder carcinomas with lamina propria or muscular layer invasion were analyzed.

[Mortality rate trends for breast cancer in Rosario, Argentina. Association with socioeconomic factors].

This report is based on data from death certificates of all women whose cause of death was breast cancer, residents in Rosario City, during two 5-year-periods: 1977-81 and 1988-92, in order to know these rates evolution. Deaths, which were allocated to the last residence of the decedents, were aggregated into the 22 census areas of the city. Age-standardized mortality rates (SMR) by area were correlated with socioeconomic variables.
