Nanodiamond (ND) particles are popular platforms for the immobilization of molecular species. In the present research, enzyme Escherichia coli inorganic pyrophosphatase (PPase) was immobilized on detonation ND through covalent or noncovalent bonding and its enzymatic activity was characterized. Factors affecting adsorption of PPase such as ND size and surface chemistry were studied.

Comparative study of the effects of methyluracil and betamecil showed that a fourfold oral administration of betamecil in a dose of 10 mg/kg leads to a considerable increase in the orientation-and-search reaction in the open field test. This drug effect is retained for at least one week. Betamecil in doses of 10 and 100 mg/kg does not virtually alter the rate of conditioning of the food-seeking reflex with respect to the place in the T-shaped maze test (as compared to the control animals.

Wound-healing activity of 2% betamicil ointment in comparison with the traditional stimulants of corneal repair regeneration (methyluracyl and solcoseril) was studied in experiments. The rate of epithelialization of a standard trephination wound in rabbit cornea (28 animals), mitotic activity of the anterior corneal epithelium, and strength of the regenerated tissue were assessed after use of different stimulants and in control. A maximal positive effect of local betamicil (2% ointment) was observed: the wounds epithelialized 57% sooner than in control, but there was no reliable difference from solcoseril; the regenerate of linear corneal wound was 1.

The effect of two methyluracil forms on the composition of lipids, the content of peroxidation products and the amount of lipid-soluble scavengers of free radicals was studied in rat liver and heart tissues. Both these forms caused an increase in content of total lipids in the animal liver tissue 2 hrs after injection, whereas beta-form increased 1.6-fold the content of cholesterol esters and 1.

The effectiveness of a substance of a group of pyrimidine derivatives LUS-3 has been studied in 87 rabbits (174 eyes) with chemical burns of the cornea of degree III. In parallel series of experiments, its action was compared with one of traditional methods of treatment of eye burns using sodium sulfacetamide in combination with subconjunctival injections of autologous blood with penicillin as well as with a pyrimidine derivative--methyluracil. The assessment of the effectiveness of the preparations was made by the picture of the clinical course as well as by data of histologic investigations.
