Light is a particularly appealing tool for on-demand drug delivery due to its noninvasive nature, ease of application and exquisite temporal and spatial control. Great progress has been achieved in the development of novel light-driven drug delivery strategies with both breadth and depth. Light-controlled drug delivery platforms can be generally categorized into three groups: photochemical, photothermal, and photoisomerization-mediated therapies.

As natural agroecology deteriorates, controlled environment agriculture (CEA) systems become the backup support for coping with future resource consumption and potential food crises. Compared with natural agroecology, most of the environmental parameters of the CEA system rely on manual management. Such a system is dependent and fragile and prone to degradation, which includes harmful bacteria proliferation and productivity decline.

The short- and long-term implications of identifying totally occluded culprit coronary arteries (TOCCA) in patients presenting with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) have not been well studied. This study compares clinical characteristics, short- and long-term outcomes of patients with NSTEMI identified with TOCCA to that of patients with non-TOCCA undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We analyzed data from patients with NSTEMI undergoing single-vessel PCI within the Melbourne Interventional Group multi-center registry between 2005 and 2017.

Design of micro- or nanocarriers for drug delivery has primarily been focused on properties such as hydrophobicity, biodegradability, size, shape, surface charge, and toxicity, so that they can achieve optimal delivery with respect to drug loading, release kinetics, biodistribution, cellular uptake, and biocompatibility. Incorporation of stimulus-sensitive moieties into the carriers would lead to "smart" delivery systems. A further evolution would be to endow the carrier with a therapeutic function such that it no longer serves as a mere passive entity to release the drug at the target tissue but can be viewed as a therapeutic agent in itself.

Tissue-resident macrophages in white adipose tissue (WAT) dynamically adapt to the metabolic changes of their microenvironment that are often induced by excess energy intake. Currently, the exact contribution of these macrophages in obesity-driven WAT remodeling remains controversial. Here, using a transgenic CD169-DTR mouse strain, we provide new insights into the interplay between CD169 adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) and their surrounding WAT microenvironment.

Article Synopsis
  • Granuloma gluteale infantum is a rare type of skin condition that can occur due to irritant contact dermatitis in infants.
  • To treat it, keeping the diaper area clean and dry while addressing the source of irritation is essential; if this approach doesn’t work, topical calcineurin inhibitors might be necessary.
  • A case study reported that a 12-month-old infant with persistent granuloma gluteale infantum was successfully treated with topical tacrolimus 0.03% ointment, marking one of the few instances of this treatment being documented.

Leukemia stem cells (LSCs) sustain the disease and contribute to relapse in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Therapies that ablate LSCs may increase the chance of eliminating this cancer in patients. To this end, we used a bioreducible lipidoid-encapsulated Cas9/single guide RNA (sgRNA) ribonucleoprotein [lipidoid nanoparticle (LNP)-Cas9 RNP] to target the critical gene interleukin-1 receptor accessory protein () in human LSCs.

Nonviral direct neuronal reprogramming holds significant potential in the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. However, the issue of low reprogramming efficiency poses a major barrier to its application. We propose that topographical cues, which have been applied successfully to enhance lineage-directed differentiation and multipotent stem cell transdifferentiation, could improve nonviral direct neuronal reprogramming efficiency.
