In samples of harmful algal blooms (HABs), seawater can contain a high abundance of microorganisms and elemental ions. Along with the hardness of the walls of key HAB dinoflagellates such as , this makes RNA extraction very difficult. These components interfere with RNA isolation, causing its degradation, in addition to the complex seawater properties of HABs that could hinder RNA isolation for effective RNA sequencing and transcriptome profiling.

Exome and genome sequencing (ES/GS) are routinely used for the diagnosis of genetic diseases in developed countries. However, their implementation is limited in countries from Latin America. We aimed to describe the results of GS in patients with suspected rare genetic diseases in Colombia.

The dinoflagellate forms high biomass blooms that discolor the water (red tides), which may pose a serious threat to marine fauna and aquaculture exploitations. In this study, the algicidal effect of a bacterial strain (0YLH) belonging to the genus was identified and evaluated against . The algicidal effects on the dinoflagellate were observed when was exposed to cell-free supernatant (CFS) from stationary-phase cultures of the 0YLH strain.

Disruption of the KEAP1-NRF2 pathway results in the transactivation of NRF2 target genes, consequently inducing cell proliferation and other phenotypic changes in cancer cells. Here, we demonstrated that GULP1 was a KEAP1-binding protein that maintained actin cytoskeleton architecture and helped KEAP1 to sequester NRF2 in the cytoplasm. In urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (UCB), silencing of GULP1 facilitated the nuclear accumulation of NRF2, led to constitutive activation of NRF2 signaling, and conferred resistance to the platinum drug cisplatin.

Tunable, mid-infrared radiation was obtained by frequency doubling of a continuous-wave CO(2) laser in orientation-patterned GaAs crystal. Active cooling of the crystal minimized pump-induced thermal effects, allowing generation of output powers exceeding 300 mW across the wavelength range of 4.63-4.

Measurements of optical transmission and several thermal properties of Hg(1-x)Cd(x)Te alloys are reported for a few values of the alloy composition parameter x, which was determined by a microprobe technique. The values of the thermal diffusivity, specific heat, and thermal conductivity were measured using the laser-flash method. These results are reported at four discrete temperatures between 90 and 400 K and compared to those of three well-characterized semiconductor materials: Si, InAs, and InSb.
