Article Synopsis
  • The case report discusses the use of Icon resin infiltration as a solution for white spot lesions (WSLs) on a 23-year-old male's anterior teeth, which he found aesthetically troubling.
  • The patient developed these white spots after orthodontic treatment, and they were confirmed to be remineralized WSLs through clinical examination.
  • After a single session of resin infiltration along with tooth whitening and microabrasion, the treatment significantly enhanced the patient's smile and self-esteem while preserving tooth structure compared to alternative methods.

Background: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the supporting tissues of the teeth, and can lead to serious complications such as tooth loss and systemic health problems, including diabetes, which have a bidirectional relationship with periodontitis. Circulating microparticles originate from different cell types after stimuli such as activation or apoptosis. Interleukins are related to processes in the regulation of the immune response, inflammation, and cell growth.

The Neotropical region hosts 4225 freshwater fish species, ranking first among the world's most diverse regions for freshwater fishes. Our NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set is the first to produce a large-scale Neotropical freshwater fish inventory, covering the entire Neotropical region from Mexico and the Caribbean in the north to the southern limits in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay. We compiled 185,787 distribution records, with unique georeferenced coordinates, for the 4225 species, represented by occurrence and abundance data.

Article Synopsis
  • Fish stocking programs were initiated to help migratory fish overcome barriers created by hydropower dams, but they have raised genetic concerns for local fish populations.
  • A study conducted on Neotropical migratory fish in Brazil's Três Marias dam revealed low genetic diversity and inbreeding, with only four distinct genetic pools identified.
  • The successful transposition of genetic pools resulted in genetic homogenization in the upper São Francisco River basin, highlighting the species' genetic fragility and the need for effective conservation strategies.

Objective: To assess the number of cases and the profile of hospitalizations from varicella after the introduction of the measles, mumps, rubella and varicella combination vaccine in the public health system.

Methods: Retrospective study in an infectious diseases pediatric hospital of reference in Southeast Brazil. The cases with a clinical diagnosis of varicella, from January 2011 to June 2016, were assessed from pediatricians' medical records.

Mitochondrial complete genome (mtDNA) of , commonly known as "traírão" is presented. DNA from a muscle tissue sample was sequenced by next-generation sequencing. To corroborate the results, phylogenetic analysis was performed with MEGA6 to compare the complete mitogenome of with genomes of other Characiformes species.

Article Synopsis
  • Prochilodus spp. are key migratory freshwater fishes in Brazil, recognized for their economic and ecological significance.
  • The mitochondrial genomes of Prochilodus argenteus and Prochilodus costatus were sequenced and compared, revealing they have similar genetic structures.
  • A phylogenetic analysis confirmed that both Prochilodus and the family Prochilodontidae are monophyletic groups, suggesting strong evolutionary relationships among these species.
